Deal Breaker - Chapter 1
Han River View or Han River Below
Takatak, takatak.
The quiet, continuous sound of keyboard keys in the secretary’s office ceased as the phone rang out loudly.
Is it another loan call?
She had already taken out as much in loans as she could to buy her Han River-view apartment.
The idea that it might be a call from an acquaintance never even crossed her mind. Considering her social circle was not just narrow, but practically on the verge of extinction, that was only natural. Besides, her only family, her maternal grandmother, never called during working hours.
When she pulled out the loudly ringing phone from her handbag and checked it, a message she had written herself was displayed boldly in the middle of the screen.
[ Need to get birth control injection this week!!!! ]
It was a reminder.
“Ah, right. I should make an appointment…”
Just as she remembered and was about to call the OB/GYN that her boss had designated to make an appointment, the door with the nameplate ‘CEO Han Kanghyeon’ swung open from the inner side of the secretary’s office and her boss’s voice came through.
“No, Secretary.”
“Yes.”
“Can you loosen it for me for a moment?”
His straight index finger pointed between his legs, where his suit pants left little room.
“Of course.”
Hyeji brushed a finger over the still-ringing reminder notification and stood up from her seat. For some reason, in such a hurry, her boss was already unfastening his leather belt buckle before Hyeji could even enter and close the door.
Click.
The door closed behind Hyeji as she crouched down in front of him. The phone, left sitting on the desk, did not ring again.
That day, in a moment of confusion, Noh Hyeji chose ‘Turn Off Reminder’ instead of ‘Remind Me Again’—and she did not know.
So because of that fleeting mistake, her Han River view was about to become a swimming activity in the depths of Han River below instead.
