Could it be because they share the same origin? The dagger also possessed a similar evolving attribute as the ring.

Michael put the paper back and closed the box. Seeing the auction house’s seal on the box, it seemed Irene had won the bid after he had left.

Returning to the bed with the ring in hand, he looked at the sleeping Irene and said,

ā€œYou’ve bought a good blade. Like your ring, it will grow over time. If you feed it enough blood, it will become sharper than any blade in this fortress.ā€

Of course, Irene, who was asleep, couldn’t hear him. She would likely wonder what kind of dagger it was, but Michael had no intention of telling her anytime soon.

ā€˜If I tell her…’

She had been acting like she had no attachment to the fortress. If she learned about the dagger’s nature, she would undoubtedly try to sell it to someone else and leave this place.

ā€˜I can’t let that happen.’

Irene didn’t yet understand why, despite the rare treasures surrounding her, she never seemed to get her hands on money.

ā€œI’m sorry… But if you gather all the money you need, you’ll leave me without hesitation.ā€

In the end, it wouldn’t take long for everything to come to a conclusion.

So, just until then, he hoped she would stay here. By his side.

Michael gently took Irene’s hand and slipped the ring back onto her finger. Seeing her wear something he had given her always brought him immense satisfaction.

After placing her hand down, he softly brushed her bangs aside, murmuring to himself,

ā€œI’ll give you much more in the future.ā€

After the current dungeon raid ended, she would be able to obtain everything she desired.

No, she would receive far more than that.

No one would dare point a finger at her again.

Even if he were no longer around…

Michael’s thoughts drifted back to the events from the previous day.

ā€œAh.ā€

He had dealt with the situation, but in his rush to return to Irene, he hadn’t fully finished it.

He stood up, covered Irene with a blanket, and once again pressed his lips to hers in a lingering, regretful kiss.

Then, he stepped outside.

It was time to finish what he had left undone.

The next day, Irene was startled when Reyna came to visit.

ā€œA dungeon appeared? And it’s a high-tier unstable dungeon?ā€

Reyna, surprised by Irene’s reaction, looked puzzled.

ā€œYou didn’t know? The entire city was in chaos! The streets were a mess with people fleeing, and the fortress was in disarray since it’s the first time a high-tier unstable dungeon has appeared this close.ā€

ā€œI had no idea. The staff in the appraisal room didn’t mention anything, and I went straight back to my room afterward.ā€

When she woke up, Michael had been standing in front of her.

After spending the entire night with him, she hadn’t even had a chance to hear the news, let alone leave the room.

ā€œFortunately, Sir Michael was nearby, so the subjugation went smoothly, but because it appeared in the middle of the city, some people were caught in it. Most were injured, but two guests from the auction were killed. And those two were…ā€

Reyna hesitated, glancing at Irene cautiously before finally speaking with difficulty.

ā€œThey were the ones who won the bid for the Stone of Silence you put up.ā€

ā€œ…!ā€

They were dead.

At times like this, one should pray that their souls find peace before God, but Irene found herself worrying more about the Stone of Silence they had taken with them.

ā€œOh, right. The Stone of Silence they bought was found separately, and the auction house reclaimed it.ā€

ā€œI see… May they rest in peace.ā€

ā€œMay they rest in peace.ā€

Unaware of the wrongs they had committed, Reyna assumed Irene’s hesitation was due to shock and solemnly made the sign of the cross.

Reyna spoke at length about the incident before leaving, mentioning that she and Felix planned to visit a nearby low-tier dungeon in the afternoon.

Left alone, Irene contemplated for a moment before deciding to get dressed and head out.

There was something she needed to confirm.
