How to Survive as a Supporting Male Lead - Chapter 21.2
So, it wasnât easy for Iann to fully accept that Kallian and Yuhwa had already fallen in love. He knew Kallian too well. That guy only acted kindly when he had some ulterior motive. He had never shown any of that ulterior-motive kindness to Iann himself, but still.
Anyway, Iann decided he needed to keep the frequency of Kallian and Yuhwaâs interactions under control until he could figure out exactly what Kallian was thinking. Theyâd eaten before coming here, and heâd made sure to take the room closest to Kallianâs himself.
He couldnât just toss his sweet, innocent sister-like Yuhwa to that wretched, scheming Kallian.
âYeah. Iâm Yuhwaâs protectorâso at the very least, I should check out the mental state of any guy she might bring home as a prospective husband.â
When Iann finished with his musings, he jumped up. He was going to probe Kallian a bit.
Iann wandered around Kallianâs mansion as if it were his own home. Heâd been there more times than he could count, and heâd gotten used to roaming around without anyone guiding him.
Like a secondhand bargain hunter trying to shave off even a bit more from the price, Iann meticulously inspected Kallianâs mansion. It was surprisingly fun to spot the changes since heâd last visited a few weeks ago. Plus, it was good to memorize the layout while he still could roam freely. His next visit would probably be a stealthy break-in.
Before long, Iann arrived at Kallianâs office door. This was the door he knew best in the whole mansion. Thanks to Kallianâs obsession with his office and bedroom, Iann had memorized every detail of both.
Knock knockâ
Iann rapped on the door. After a moment, a low voice called for him to come in. Iann flung the door open.
âIann, enteringâhuh!â
Thunk! A dagger flew straight at him, only to be deflected by the shield heâd hastily conjured. Iann stood there, staring blankly at the dagger clattering on the floor. That thing had nearly gone through his neck.
âYou crazy bastard! Is this how you treat your guests?!â
ââŚI didnât recognize the footsteps and thought it was an assassin.â
âWhat kind of insane assassin knocks before coming in?! And how can you still not recognize my footsteps after all this time?â
âThatâs true, I suppose.â
Kallian, looking weary, calmly acknowledged Iannâs point.
âWhat the hell? Whatâs going on? Why are you agreeing with me? Wait a minuteâdoes that mean you knew it was me and still threw it?!â
âYes. I suspected it was you. But thereâs always a chance itâs not.â
âWhat nonsense. Donât sugarcoat it. You basically just said you threw it because you thought it was me! Hey, Iâm a patient right now, remember? And even if I werenât, a surprise like that is too much!â
âYou wouldnât be taken down by something like this.â
Kallianâs clear gaze fell on Iann. Not a flicker of doubt in those eyes. Iann had expected him to keep a straight face while saying, âI threw it so youâd get hit.â But instead⌠Kallianâs half-assed compliment threw Iann for a loop. Should he be pleased, or should he be angry?
âAnyway! Donât throw things at me next time. My heart canât take it every time I walk into your office.â
âWhat other reason would you have to come into my office so often?â
âDonât pretend you donât know. Iâve probably been in here more than anyone else.â
âPlease stop coming.â
âIâll think about it. By the way, do you have any chocolate?â
Iann began rifling through Kallianâs office like it was his own kitchen pantry. Kallian watched him quietly, then tapped on the desk.
âOver here. Come here.â
âWhat? Really?â
Iann stopped searching the bookshelves and took a step closer. Kallian pulled a box of chocolates from his desk drawer and pushed it across the table to Iann.
ââŚYouâre giving it to me?â
âYes.â
âWhy?â
Iann clutched the box to his chest and narrowed his eyes suspiciously at Kallian. This wasnât like Kallian at all. To speak so gently and hand over chocolate so kindly⌠Iann quickly checked outside the window. The moon was shining normally. So it wasnât the end of the worldâyet.
âDid you poison it or something? Hey, did you? Iâve told you a hundred times, Iâm immune to that now. Ever since what you did to me, Iâve been building resistance.â
âI didnât poison it.â
âReally?â
âYes. Really.â
ââŚNope. You eat one first.â
Iann opened the box and chose the most unappetizing pieceâa weirdly colored chocolate overloaded with nutsâand held it out to Kallian.
âAh.â
âI donât waâmmph.â
Kallianâs face twisted as Iann shoved the chocolate into his mouth. The rich, syrupy sweetness flooded his senses. But Kallian didnât care for sweets. And this one, picked out with Iann in mind, was so sweet it almost tasted bitter.
Seeing Kallianâs face contort, Iann dusted off his hands with satisfaction.
âGood. No poison, I guess.â
