How to Survive as a Supporting Male Lead - Chapter 23.2
The problem, of course, was that two eternally single guys with absolutely zero social cues were never going to come up with a proper answer when it came to romance. But they didnât know that. They kept analyzing and discussing, but in the end, no clear conclusion emerged.
âAnyway, it does look like theyâre getting closer, donât you think?â
âYeah. I guess thatâs true.â
They ambled through the festival street, sharing half-baked observations. They looked like two regular festival-goers. They really werenât the types to get invested in things they didnât understand. But then Iannâs eyes locked onto a certain tent.
âHey, Derrick!â
âWhat. The two of them look like theyâre having an important conversation right now.â
âNo, look over thereâthereâs a balloon dart game. Letâs do that.â
âI thought you wanted to see what kind of atmosphere between the two of them. Why are you going somewhere else?â
âHonestly, no matter how hard I look, I canât tell a damn thing. Weâve been at this for ten minutes and all weâve come up with is âtheyâre getting closer.â Letâs just ask Heizen about it later.â
âThe Crown Prince?â
âYeah. Heâs got plenty of experience with love, doesnât he?â
âOh.â
There was some sort of logic there, and as usual, Derrick caved to Iannâs reasoning.
âSo youâre saying letâs go play darts?â
âYeah. Letâs make it a bet.â
âUgh, no. Thatâs such a hassle.â
âChicken?â
Derrick stomped off to the tent, paying the fee and grabbing a red dart in no time. He was just as quick to fall for provocation as Iann was.
âWhat are you waiting for? Arenât you coming?â
âOh. Thatâs the spiritââ
Excited, Iann ran over to Derrick.
* * *
Contrary to what Iann and Derrick expected, Kallian and Yuhwa hadnât grown any closer at all. They were simply talking about the deal theyâd struck the day before at the Hunting Festival.
âSo, when will you let me access the library, Your Grace?â
Yuhwa asked with a polite smile, doing her best.
âYouâll have to try harder. I need to see some action before I can decide.â
âYou know itâs because of me that you were able to come to the festival today, right?â
âHmm. Iâll have to think about that.â
âThen at least give me a proper request. Iâll make sure to give you results.â
âWhy is it so urgent? Our deal was only made yesterday.â
âHow long do you think I can stay at your mansion? I donât have time to waste.â
âWhy not? Just stay here.â
Yuhwaâs expression froze.
âYouâre telling me to stay at your mansion now?â
âYes.â
Kallian answered coolly. What was so difficult about it?
âIf you want, Iâll prepare a room for you. At the very least, itâll be better than what the Countâs family is offering. Anything else you need?â
âNo. Thatâs not it.â
âThere must be a reason youâre so hesitant to leave Iannâs mansion.â
âWhat?â
âThereâs something youâre interested in.â
Kallian probed carefully, trying to glean the relationship between the two from Yuhwa, since he couldnât get from Iann.
âThereâs nothing like that. But Iâll never move into your mansion.â
Yuhwaâs answer was firm. She didnât so much as mention Iannâs name. Not taking the bait, huh? Kallianâs eyes cooled as he realized he wouldnât get the answer he was after.
âWhy not?â
It wasnât like he really cared about the answer. He didnât sincerely want her to stay at his mansion. He just wanted her anywhere but at Iannâs mansion.
âBecause you keep tormenting our sweet Iann.â
âThat again.â
Kallian ran a hand through his hair, irritation clear in the gesture. Whatever Iann had done, Yuhwa believed in him unwaveringly. She thought he was nothing but kind and good.
That put Kallian in a bad mood. Iann had done enough to fill a stack of books with his antics, and yet Yuhwa still thought he was pure while he was the villain? And the fact that she was acting like she knew Iann better than he did⌠that was the worst of all.
âYou think Iannâs kind?â
âYes. Thatâs why heâs always so gentle with me. No matter what powers I might have, itâs not easy to be so nice to a stranger.â
âYou donât seem to realize that Iann de Loit is the Empireâs most notorious troublemaker.â
âWhat people say out there doesnât matter. What matters is that Iann has been kind to me.â
Had Iann brainwashed her or something? Kallian genuinely wondered for a moment. Seeing his confusion, Yuhwa only tilted her head at him.
âIâm guessing⌠Your Grace doesnât really know Iann at all, do you?â
Kallianâs expression went rigid.
