I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 111
She seemed to think getting a definite answer was more important than speaking further, so she quickly shut her mouth and met his gaze directly.
Even though her body trembled instinctively from the intense aura he emitted, her eyes remained resolute.
‘Nothing about the princess is easy,’
How could someone captivate others to this extent?
Despite being so fragile, she had a way of surrounding herself with people of such unwavering resolve. It wasn’t an easy thing to do.
“You’re outsiders, so you wouldn’t know, but in Xieman, divine oracles are paramount. Unless she kills my father, my mother, or even my child, there will be no reason to abandon her. Besides, even if she did, killing her is impossible.”
She had to be their moon until the next generation took over.
Their god, Adin, would never allow her to die before then.
If she were to die before the generational shift, it would likely be because Adin willed it.
“…I’ve never heard of her bringing someone back to life,” Mary finally spoke, her voice tense with apprehension.
Kagan’s eyes narrowed at her words.
“She’s healed serious injuries before, but… reviving someone who was already dead, that’s something I’ve never heard of.”
Only after receiving his confirmation did her heavy lips finally open.
Kagan nodded slightly.
“…I see.”
“Yes. I only found out about this a few years ago myself…”
Mary added cautiously, offering more explanation.
As Kagan nodded, a small smirk tugged at the corners of his lips.
“I’m not sure where to begin. But the princess, when she dies… she can recharge her life force, like when she heals someone or revives the land.”
“Life force…?”
“That’s what she calls it. Life force,”
Mary said, bowing her head slightly before placing the glass and pitcher of water on the side table.
The way she gently swept back Nisha’s hair made it clear she had done this many times before.
“When the princess was younger, she almost died. Actually, maybe she did die that time.”
Mary spoke cautiously, her eyes shifting as she continued.
“I remember hearing that her abilities awakened after that incident.”
“I see…”
“It happened before she took me in, so I don’t know all the details. I just know that it happened.”
Kagan, with his arms crossed, leaned against the wall by the door, giving her a slight nod, as if to prompt her to continue.
“Her abilities allow her to heal people and revive dead land. Thanks to that, we were finally able to grow crops and not worry about starving.”
“…….”
Kagan’s eyes narrowed slightly at Mary’s words.
He couldn’t be sure what she was saying. It felt like he was hearing something utterly strange.
‘Not worry about starving?’
Why would a princess, someone raised with utmost care, ever have to think about such a thing?
Questions arose in his mind, but Kagan swallowed them down.
He didn’t want to complicate the situation with unnecessary details right now.
If the conversation stopped, they’d lose time.
Setting his curiosity aside for the moment, he focused on Mary’s story.
“But there were limits. Once she realized it wasn’t infinite, she tried to use it again, but it wasn’t easy,” she continued.
“…….”
“I was just a child working odd jobs in the imperial palace when the princess took me in.”
Kagan narrowed his eyes. That seemed like something Nisha would do.
“And then, one day, the princess was severely injured. She was beaten so badly she fell into a coma…”
At Mary’s words, Kagan’s face hardened.
He couldn’t understand what he had just heard.
Beaten? A princess? Why?
