I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 159
“Anyway, let’s rest today and start tomorrow.”
“Weren’t we supposed to go back today?”
“Even if we leave now, it’ll be well into the night before we arrive. Xieman’s nights aren’t gentle enough for someone as delicate as you to sleep outdoors.”
She knew that already.
Every night, even if she cracked the window open just a little, an icy chill would rush in that felt like it could freeze her to death.
“So tonight, stay with me.”
“…Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Mm”.
As she quickly corrected herself, Nisha saw Kagan give a low chuckle, and she let out a sigh, scratching her cheek.
Truly, this man was exhausting in more ways than one.
“Alright, let’s go.”
Kagan, who had once again picked her up in his arms, carried her straight to the manor house in Shaman Territory.
To see him walking like that, cradling her while leaving the carriage, soldiers, and horses behind, it was the very picture of devotion.
“Welcome, Kagan. Katun. It is an honor to meet you and serve you.”
As soon as they arrived at the manor house, a man of impressive stature appeared.
He was large, but not fat, his body was covered entirely in muscle.
‘Are all the people of Xieman like this?’
Was everyone here a muscle monster?
She couldn’t help but wonder how it was even possible for a human body to be so filled with muscle.
“It’s been a while. Ulbach.”
“Yes, it’s been a long time. I apologize for not visiting sooner.”
“No, I understand. Your territory is always busy.”
As Kagan exchanged these brief words, Nisha looked around.
There really was a field here.
It was the first time since coming to Xieman that she’d seen a proper field.
And there was something growing in it. Small, green shoots, at least.
Of course, it wasn’t like the bountiful harvests she’d seen in Roshan or other countries, but still, it was the first time she’d seen a field this properly tended.
‘They’re not very strong, though.’
Just managing to grow roots and survive in this dry, barren land seemed like an incredible feat.
No, even sprouting at all in this place seemed to speak volumes of the struggle these lands had faced.
“This is the new Tun chosen by the oracle, yes?”
“Yes. She is a precious guest, so take good care of her.”
“You needn’t worry about that.”
At Kagan’s words, Nisha’s cheeks flushed red.
Precious, really?
For some reason, her earlobes felt hot, and she slowly rubbed them with her fingertips.
There was a sigh of relief in so many ways.
Embarrassed, Nisha rubbed her arm awkwardly, not knowing what to do, when the man named Ulbach let out a low chuckle and turned his body.
“You must be tired, so I’ll prepare a place for you to rest first. After that, would you like to have a meal right away?”
“What do you think? Nisha.”
“Ah… um.”
Nisha hesitated.
She couldn’t really say she was hungry. She was more tired and just wanted to rest.
Glancing at the time, Nisha shook her head.
“I’ll rest for a bit first. We can eat dinner later.”
At her answer, Kagan narrowed his brow slightly, not looking entirely pleased, but he nodded anyway.
“My Tun seems quite tired. Let’s have dinner this evening. I’ll rest with her, so see to it accordingly.”
“Yes, understood.”
“It’s alright if we look around the estate tomorrow, right? Nisha.”
“Mm.”
Nisha gave a small nod, then followed the two of them as they walked through the lord’s manor.
Curiously, the manor was filled with a surprising variety of plants.
Aside from the building itself being designed to let in plenty of sunlight, there were pots of all kinds of plants everywhere along the hallways.
It was the first time she’d seen so many potted plants in Xieman, and Nisha’s gaze kept wandering around in wonder.
