The cold, dark, and eerie environment had frightened her to the point of incessant crying for quite some time.

She was discovered about a week later, just when she thought she might die.

Whether they knew and didn’t come looking, or truly didn’t know she was missing, she wasn’t sure.

“What brings you here?”

Not long after stepping into the separate castle, a deep and curt voice resonated.

“I’m here about what I mentioned yesterday.”

“Yesterday…? Ah! You mean the matter of the new daughter-in-law.”

New… daughter-in-law?

Technically, it wasn’t wrong, but it was an unusual term in the royal family.

“Oh.”

Nisha lowered her gaze, lifted the hem of her dress, and bowed.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Former King. I’m Nisha Roshan.”

Should I have said Xieman instead of Roshan?

Although she hadn’t personally signed the marriage documents, the idea of being someone’s wife still felt unfamiliar, making it strange to use a different surname.

“Ha ha, raise your head. There’s no need to be so formal, Tun. Now that you’re part of Xieman, we’re family.”

Earlier, he had sounded like a crude ruffian from the royal family, but now his tone was much more respectful.

“Ah… You can speak comfortably. In private settings, that is.”

“Hmm. Then, since Tun has given her consent, I’ll speak freely.”

Nisha, lifting her head slightly at the laughing voice, saw a middle-aged man so robust it was hard to believe he was Kagan’s father. She swallowed nervously at the sight.

The first thing she noticed was his broad chest, just as imposing as Kagan’s.

And then, the same golden eyes and jet-black hair.

His tall stature, slightly tanned bronze skin, and sharp eyes gave him a fierce look, while the wrinkles around his eyes and brow, highlighted his mature appearance.

Fortunately, the man was wearing a long, thin robe, giving her somewhere to focus her gaze, even though it wasn’t fastened in the front.

Nisha sighed with relief and cautiously lifted her head.

“It’s an honor to meet you, new Tun.”

The former king, striding towards her, extended his hand.

“Yes, it’s a pleasure to meet you as well, Your Majesty.”

As she quickly reached out to shake his hand, the former king grasped her hand and, with a composed demeanor, kissed her hand before stepping back.

“There’s no need for ‘Your Majesty.’ You can call me Father. Let’s not be so formal, dear.”

“Oh, yes.”

“I’ve heard from Khan that you’re a noble with a precious ability. You’ve also offered to treat my wife.”

Nisha nodded at the former king’s narrowed eyes.

“I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to treat her all at once, though.”

“Even if it takes ten or twenty times… or even years, if she can be cured, we will owe a lifetime’s worth of gratitude.”

The former king spoke softly, his expression somewhat wistful.

“Ah, just to let you know in advance, it might be that I can’t heal her. I haven’t heard the exact symptoms…”

Nisha added cautiously, worried that they might be disappointed.

At her words, the former king’s sharp eyes suddenly widened.

“Didn’t Kagan tell you?”

“Ah, no. He… Kagan said I’d understand when I see it. I didn’t ask since it might be uncomfortable to discuss outside.”

The former king’s mouth opened slightly at Nisha’s quiet response.

“You didn’t grab him by the collar and threaten him to tell you?”

“Sorry…?”

“Ahem, no. It seems the new Katun is much softer and more considerate than our Xieman people.”

Nisha’s expression twisted slightly at the former king’s words.

What does he mean by ‘softer’ and ‘considerate’?

She just thought that if it was something important, he would have told her in advance.

Both men were so tall that to converse with them, Nisha had to either stand five steps away or tilt her head back.

“This way.”

The former king knocked twice on a door adorned with intricate, almost sacred carvings. When a voice from inside invited them in, he opened the door and entered.

“You’ve brought a distinguished guest, Kagan.”
