I didn’t expect a romantic confession, but I certainly didn’t want one as bleak and dry as this.’

From the start, Kagan wasn’t the kind of man who needed multiple partners—at least not when it came to romantic relationships.

He had grown up watching his father remain completely devoted to his mother for years, and his mother never took in or met another man besides his father.

He hadn’t had any desire for a chaotic love life either.

Of course, he thought Roshan would be the same.

Even though Nisha was too frail to fully meet his physical needs, he hadn’t wanted to bring in someone else and create unnecessary complications.

He had even considered pulling Princess Rose aside to talk things through, but she had only talked about getting along in the future…

‘Does this princess think I’m doing this because I want to?’

He couldn’t help but wonder what she thought she would gain by offering to give him everything he wanted.

If she said it out of fear, he could at least understand.

“Things have gotten complicated.”

He didn’t know where to start or how to untangle it all.

Normally, he’d resolve things with a fight, but even he wasn’t so low as to strike a woman, no matter how troublesome she was.

‘Or is it that she’s the one who needs someone else?’

Polygamy could just as well be called polyandry.  

‘Another person?’  

Even if she were to only have a child with him, if she was this afraid, there would never be a chance for anyone else to come near her.  

Kagan’s eyes narrowed.  

‘I’m supposed to live celibate?’  

Insanity.  

A curse slipped out instinctively.  

Why in the world should he, with a perfectly good wife, have to resort to that?  

He absolutely refused.  

To be honest, Kagan didn’t think he could ever truly love her.  

But even if he couldn’t love her sincerely, wouldn’t affection grow between them over time, at least while they were together?  

Whether it was physical affection or something else.  

Living celibate was utter madness. Obviously, he had no intention of allowing her to bring another man in either. Not that he could force her to comply.  

‘Come to think of it, I heard Father did everything he could to win Mother’s heart back…’  

So much so that people from that time would often joke about it even now.  

Kagan thought quietly as he looked down at Nisha.  

‘Maybe getting her to open up is the first step.’  

She had too much she wasn’t saying, and even more she was hiding.  

It made him want to crack open her head just to see what was going on inside.

However, one thing was certain: if he left things as they were, he might have to witness her being with another man right in front of him.  

Of course, in Xieman, such things were accepted freely. So he couldn’t force her otherwise.  

But wasn’t seduction still within his right?  

‘I’m not sure anymore.’  

He stared at Nisha for a long time before glancing down at the medicine the physician had left behind.  

When he had first handed it to Nisha, the small bottle had been full.  

Now, even though it was almost empty.  

‘It seems I need to look into this more deeply.’  

Normally, he wouldn’t act like this—scheming in the shadows.  

“Haa…”  

While lost in thought, Nisha’s fingertips twitched.  

Kagan snapped out of his thoughts and spoke quickly.  

“Princess, are you alright?”  

“…did wrong…”  

“Hm?”  

“I… did… wrong…”  

With her half-conscious, half-dreamlike gaze, her words floated out in a faint whisper.  

“Please…”  

“Princess… Nisha?”  

“Forgive me… please…”  

Tears rolled down her cheeks as her head drooped, and she collapsed into unconsciousness once more.  

Kagan stood there in stunned silence, staring at her.

He sighed deeply, he pouted his lips before he ruffled his hair in frustration.  

“I don’t understand a thing.”  

He muttered softly, his voice low, before calling in her dedicated maid.  

Kagan gently smoothed back Nisha’s damp hair one last time before turning on his heel and heading for his office.  

It was that very afternoon when orders were issued to investigate deeper into the internal affairs and secrets of the Roshan Empire.
