I Give Up on the BL Novel's Male Leads - Chapter 13
Strangely, whenever I felt sleepy, jazz music would play, and listening to it would really lull me to sleep.
“A student from class 10, Alisha, reported her wallet was stolen.”
It seemed like the professor sighed that it could be heard up to here.
“Alisha said she saw the perpetrator.”
I thought this was a good development. If she saw who it was, it would prevent any unnecessary misunderstandings.
“Now, if the person who took Alisha’s wallet is here, please raise your hand.”
I wasn’t curious about who took the wallet.
I found stopping the class to be a nuisance.
This professor wasn’t one to cut down on exam material because we were behind on the syllabus.
If we lagged, he would rush through the material before the exam. It would be better if he just continued with the lesson at a regular pace.
“Last chance. If you confess now, I can help you. Otherwise, it could lead to bigger problems.”
After a few minutes, the professor sighed deeply and said,
“Open your eyes.”
The moment I opened my eyes, I locked eyes with the Astrology professor.
“This matter is beyond my control now.”
He said, looking at me, which felt odd, so I didn’t avert my gaze.
Then, with a subtle expression, he added.
“Still, I’ll give you until tomorrow to think it over. I hope the culprit will come to me tonight.”
He resumed the lesson after that.
It was an unsettling feeling.
“Are we going to the library together today?”
“Yes, let’s do that.”
So, I studied with Damon at the library. As usual, I returned home only late in the evening.
Damon, who enjoyed walking, escorted me as my mansion was on his way home.
“You’re back now?”
My mother was waiting in our desolate mansion.
“Haven’t you slept yet?”
“No.”
It was now 1 AM.
Seeing my mother waiting made me smile, pretending to be happy.
Given the late hour she had waited up, it was clear she wasn’t going to say anything pleasant.
I wanted to avoid the conversation, but that was hardly an option.
As I quietly smiled at my mother’s sigh, she announced.
“We’ve received a marriage proposal.”
“What?”
In the Thierry family, I was raised as a male, a necessity for continuing the family lineage.
“Which identity are they interested in? Illenas or Illein?”
Illenas was my name when living as a female, and Illein, when living as a male.
Our family had presented us as fraternal twins, with the female identity, Illenas, being raised as if too ill to often leave the manor.
“It’s for Illenas.”
So, the proposal was for my female identity, which meant a man of higher status than the Thierry barony, likely the child of someone my father trusts.
“Do I have to meet him?”
“Of course, you do! Do you want our family to fall into ruin? Do you not realize who has provided for you all these years?”
I was worried that something like this might happen. This was why I was so focused on my gradesāto avoid being sold off to some strange person.
There was only one year left until the imperial civil service exam.
If I could maintain my grades and graduate, then secure a position as a civil servant, I could escape this place.
So, it seemed best to play along for now.
“That was thoughtless of me. When will this meeting be?”
It might be better to meet and then be rejected.
Otherwise, the nagging would never end.
“The date’s not set yet, but it will be soon.”
I canāt refuse outright anyway. That would only lead to endless nagging and emotional fights until I agreed.
I didn’t have the energy for that right now; I was too drained.
“Yes, I understand.”
Returning to the mansion had been suffocating, but I couldn’t afford to skip studying.
Astrology classes always came with a report to submit.
After spending a long time on the report, I finally managed to fall asleep.
The next day, during lunch, I went up to the rooftop as usual, with my lunch box prepared just like before.
In the original story, after the lunch incident with Edwin, we kept running into each other. I naturally had nowhere else to eat, and Edwin, while pretending not to care, continued to be aware of me.
Eating lunch in the classroom wasn’t an option, nor was bringing it to the cafeteria viable.
In Bellaine Academy, I seemed to be the only one who brought a packed lunch.
“Edwin?”
I called out for Edwin, but there was no response.
“Wow.”
In the original story, we kept bumping into each other on the rooftop, engaging in a battle of nerves.
Obsessive Edwin pretended not to care about Illein but kept getting involved.
āJust be a tad bit annoying. It gets irritating after a while.ā
āWhy won’t you leave? You should avoid being around when someone’s eating. It’s annoying.ā
This was how the two continued to clash.
Initially, reading this part of āEven if You Cry, Beg, Pleadā, I thought they genuinely disliked each other.
