While Illein genuinely despised Edwin, there were theories suggesting that Edwin’s actions were due to his love for her from the start.

So, he unknowingly chased her after being charmed by Illein’s aloof demeanor.

However, Illein only grew more disdainful of his behavior. It led to the kidnapping, his ankle was broken, and a series of R19 scenes.

“Edwin? Not here, right?”

But to my surprise, warmly interacting with him seemed to have dispelled any mysterious allure he might have had of me. He was nowhere to be found.

“Hehe.”

I couldn’t help but laugh, sitting in the usual shade and opening my lunch.

It was a relief I hadn’t felt in a while.

Apparently, being kind and not maintaining a mysterious aura had its benefits.

If I couldn’t avoid the events of the original story, changing my attitude seemed to be the right approach.

Considering I was experiencing parts not mentioned in the original story, it seemed even significant events could pass while minor ones could change.

Regardless, Edwin stopped appearing when I interacted differently than in the original story.

“This means it’s working.”

I was able to spend lunch more pleasantly than usual.

As lunchtime was ending and I was about to leave the rooftop,

“Going up to the rooftop?”

When opening the door, I locked eyes with a tall man with golden hair and eyes, standing a few steps below me.

“No.”

“Then why are you here?”

“Are you Illein Thierry?”

I hadn’t seen this man before, but he seemed to know me.

“Yes, and who might you be?”

“Melias Wignum of 2nd class.”

I had heard of the Wignum Marquis family.

Marquis Wignum was a renowned earth elemental from the borderlands.

“Ah, I see. Nice to meet you.”

And the man arranged for me to meet.

“I’ve heard about your situation from my father. So I came to see you, knowing you’d be here.”

His voice was blunt but he didn’t seem like a bad person.

“How much have you heard?”

“Everything.”

His straightforwardness made me chuckle, and he just looked at me for a moment before saying,

“I see.”

He stepped aside, and I descended the stairs.

I moved slowly back to class, realizing it was time to return. He quietly followed me.

“An invitation will probably be sent to you soon.”

“What?”

“We’ll see each other again soon.”

He left as we were about to part ways in the hallway.

I returned to my class slightly dazed. Upon entering, I saw Willai’s group from class 10 lingering near my desk.

“Back now, thief?”

Willai crossed his arms and accused me.

“You’re the one who stole Alisha’s wallet, aren’t you?”

“What nonsense are you spouting? Move aside.”

I responded with a smile, but Willai and his friends encircled me, showing no intention of letting me through.

“Alisha said she saw you stealing her wallet during lunch yesterday.”

The room fell silent, everyone seemingly intrigued by the accusation.

“Come clean. You stole the wallet and ran up to the rooftop, didn’t you?”

“That’s not true.”

Willai pressed his finger into my forehead mockingly.

“Then which other beggar other than you would steal the wallet?”

“Hey, stop it, you’ll make him cry.”

His absurd accusation made me knock his hand away.

I couldn’t hold back any longer. I had been patient not to cause trouble, but Willai was already causing a scene.

“What will you do if I prove it wasn’t me? Can you take responsibility for your words?”

“Responsibility? Sure, what do you want in return, thief?”

Seeing Willai’s sneering face, I couldn’t help but scoff.

Perhaps I wouldn’t have spoken up like this if my circumstances weren’t pressing down on me.

But pretending to be nice was too draining. After all, I wasn’t a kind person to begin with.

“If I prove I’m not guilty, you’ll take a leave of absence for the year.”

“And if you’re proven to be the thief, you’ll withdraw. What business does someone like you have at an academy? A broke nobody.”

Willai’s taunt made me chuckle inside. It was absurd.

I hadn’t responded to his provocations before, not out of fear. Although I possessed water abilities, it didn’t mean I was weak.

Besides, he was in class 10, and I was in 1st. There was already a clear difference in both knowledge and skill.

“Fine. If I’m proven to be the thief, I’ll withdraw. But if it turns out I’m not the culprit, then you’ll have to withdraw too. Considering you’ve already crossed the line, a leave of absence is too light.”

I fixed my gaze on Willai. He seemed momentarily flustered before scoffing in a defiant tone,

“Alright! Fine by me!”

He crossed his arms tighter and stepped forward, looking down at me, “Just don’t come crying and apologizing later.”

“Don’t worry about me. You should save your apologies.”

‘Always bear it at the academy. If you cause trouble, we won’t be able to help you.’

The memory of my mother’s advice surfaced. It made my heart heavy without even realizing it.
