This might be related to how individuals with similar magical affinities easily bond with one another.

“I heard that all the judges gathered here are alumni of the Bellaine Academy.”

“Ah, that’s correct.”

“Indeed.”

“I was quite tall back in my youth, just like the Young Marquis.”

“Come on, when was that? You were already sporting a belly and thick glasses back then!”

“Oh, hush!”

The atmosphere was very cheerful. With this lively environment, Marquis Wignum began to speak.

“In fact, our future daughter-in-law specializes in water magic.”

“Oh, Young Marquis. I see you’ve started looking for a match around this time.”

“Yes, Judge Salias. My fiance is a very delicate and beautiful person.”

“Which family does she belong to?”

“She is the daughter of Baron Thierry.”

At that moment, Judge Salias realized the connection to the case he was handling.

“Does that lady have a brother?”

“Yes, she has a very similar brother.”

Judge Salias quickly grasped how this gathering had come about. He was a man of great ambition.

“In fact, not long ago, the Baron’s son was falsely accused and bullied at the Bellaine Academy.”

“…Yes, that’s correct. I’m aware of that incident as well.”

Salias smiled pleasantly as Melias looked him directly in the eye, continuing to speak to Marquis Wignum.

“I believe this could serve as a stepping stone for a promotion to the Supreme Court. It seems that a poor Baron’s son has been wrongfully labeled a thief and has suffered continuous bullying.”

“Oh, is that true?”

“Of course.”

Marquis Wignum smiled broadly and continued.

“Indeed, you are quite right, Judge Salias. Our Wignum family is always here to support the judges as they aim for higher positions.”

This statement implied that helping with the case involving Illein could lead to significant backing from the Wignum family, potentially advancing to a position on the Supreme Court.

This support would come from one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in the capital, known for their central bank.

“Ha ha ha, I experienced something similar not long ago. Demonstrating fairness during such times can be very beneficial for promotion.”

“Do you know who the prosecutor from the government executive is?”

“I believe it’s someone named Dalrist…”

“Oh, that’s my nephew’s name.”

“Goodness! Is that true?”

“Of course. Please remember that I can also assist in producing a fair result.”

“Of course.”

The lunch was lively and cheerful, despite not a drop of alcohol being consumed, and everyone seemed pleasantly intoxicated with the atmosphere, just as Melias and Marquis Wignum had hoped.

As soon as the work was finished, Melias went to see Illein.

He headed toward Baron Thierry’s mansion and soon arrived at the door, ringing the bell as usual.

Footsteps could be heard, and then the door opened.

The moment the door opened, Illein, resembling Illenas, looked at him with wide eyes.

“Melias.”

“I thought you might have had lunch alone today.”

Melias came simply because he wanted to see her.

“I was hoping to have dinner together.”

Despite feeling tired from everything that happened today, seeing Illein made it seem like all his fatigue melted away.

“Come in.”

Illein said this as she looked at Melias. He felt strangely like a newlywed in this situation.

“There’s not much to eat in our house…”

“How about we go to our family’s hotel?”

“Really? Oh… yes, that sounds good. But I don’t have anything to wear…”

“There’s a boutique on the lower floor of the hotel. You can change there.”

Illein nodded at his words.

Yet, she felt strange that it seemed so natural for her to receive clothes and food from him.

She was trying hard to smile, her expression somewhat ambiguous.

In truth, she felt more suited to studying in her room.

Was it really right for her to go to such a place with the son of the wealthy and illustrious Wignum family?

However, when she came out in her modest outfit, Melias took off the jacket he was wearing and draped it over her.

“Melias?”

“It’s still chilly outside.”

“But you’ll be cold too.”

“I… tend to run warm, so I’ll be fine.”

In reality, he wasn’t particularly warm-blooded. It was just that being with Illein made him feel that way.

Every time he was with Illein, he felt breathless, his heart pounding, and he experienced a sense of frustration when she talked to other men. It seemed that he harbored possessive feelings for her.

And that was quite an understandable emotion.

Until now, he hadn’t truly desired to possess anything completely.

He had been wealthy from birth, his mother loved him dearly, and even after her passing, his father did not remarry for Melias’s sake.

Having been raised with overflowing love, Melias could marry anyone for the sake of his family, yet he grew up with a strong sense of responsibility.

This was the first time he truly wanted something for himself.
