Being born a woman and raised as a man, I lived without much complaint.

No matter how chaotic life was, it was bearable compared to my previous life, which was truly dreadful.

Until Prince Edwin suddenly transferred in.

His reason for joining the academy was exactly like in the book.

Having read the original story, I knew the false accusations laid upon him, and his striking appearance.

Seeing him in person felt like a declaration that I was indeed in the world of the book.

Until then, being a woman and not encountering the obsessive prince, I never imagined I could be in the book.

Above all, I was born into a Baron family so insignificant that I wasn’t even sure if the Crown Prince’s name was Edwin or Gedwin.

“Okay. I can do this.”

But with things having turned out this way, I had to do something to survive.

In the original story, he turned against the world after being rejected and coldly treated by me.

Revealing that I am a woman in this BL novel could quickly remove me from the obsessive prince’s radar. But exposing that a girl was raised as a boy could obliterate my family’s existence.

So, I must distance myself from his tastes while still appearing as a man.

This time, I’ll get rejected unlike the original story.

Instead of being the pretty bottom he fell for, I’d become a warm, sunny character. It should be different, considering Edwin’s fascination with the pretty bottom.

With this plan in mind, I headed to the academy.

First, I had to become close to him. Showing him a mysterious image would surely grab his attention, just like in the original story.

But the allure of mystery fades upon closer inspection. As soon as I entered the class, I looked for Edwin. As expected, he was sitting near the window at the very back, his usual spot.

I approached him with a smile. He laid his head down in a sunlit spot, his hair so jet-black it seemed almost like charcoal.

I tapped his shoulder lightly. He looked up at me with a frown.

“Hello, Edwin?”

That was how I took the first step towards getting closer to him.

What do they say? Nobles are born with special blood.

Regrettably, in this world at least, that seemed to be true.

Among the nobility, which constitutes less than 4% of the population, a fraction is born with unique abilities.

These abilities are categorized into elements: fire, water, wind, and earth, based on the nature of one’s magic.

In my case, it was water. It wasn’t that one could only use magic of their element, but one could harness various kinds of magic. The primary difference was in how much one could train their inherent element to its fullest potential.

The Belaine Academy, which I attended, offered a four-year program where students were grouped by their elemental attributes for the first three years.

In the final fourth year, students were randomly assigned to classes regardless of their element, preparing us for the mixed-element society outside the academy walls.

I was in my fourth year, having turned twenty this year.

“Hello, Edwin?”

Edwin, the crown prince, was also twenty.

He possessed the ability to manipulate fire, and his entry into the academy was due to an unjust accusation.

Of course, I was the only one aware of this, having read the original story.

Edwin was born with immense magical power but struggled to control it.

Fire requires delicate control, not just the act of unleashing it, as unchecked fire is akin to arson.

He lifted his head to see who had tapped his shoulder.

“Good morning.”

However, when he made eye contact with me, he just stared blankly.

He had transferred to the academy about a week ago. After his arrival, I was bedridden with shock and only returned to classes four days later.

“My name is Il…”

He did not respond and laid his head back down on the desk.

“I’m Illein. Nice to meet you.”

Edwin seemed not to listen, but in reality, he was just pretending not to hear.

The crime he was accused of was as follows: a charred body was discovered in the imperial palace’s storeroom, and Edwin was pointed out as the prime suspect.

Given that Edwin’s abilities were strong but poorly controlled, it seemed plausible.

Moreover, his biological mother had passed away long ago, causing him to drift outside the Emperor’s circle of attention.

Additionally, the current Empress’s efforts to eliminate him played a part in his accusation.

However, my efforts to distance myself from him were going smoothly.

In the original story, his interest in Illein Thierry was sparked by his aloof demeanor, which my current approachable and friendly manner certainly did not mirror.

“By the way, Edwin.”

He had laid his head down again, and I poked his shoulder with my finger. Yet, he did not get up.

“That’s my seat.”

He lifted his head.

“Get lost.”

It seemed his reputation had spread throughout the academy. That explained why no one objected when he took my seat during my absence.

“Illein.”

Someone called out to me, and I turned to see a familiar face.

“I moved all your stuff to the front seat.”

“Oh? Ah, thanks.”

I had been worried about my belongings in the desk drawer, but they had already been moved to the seat in the front.
