I Give Up on the BL Novel's Male Leads - Chapter 41
“Was it noisy on the 9th floor?”
“The library has a silence spell on each floor.”
“Oh, right.”
Illein chuckled as she recalled this, which she had momentarily forgotten.
“I heard youâre really good at magical physics.”
Melias said to Illein, showing her the bottom of a page in his magical physics book.
“Could you explain how to apply this formula here?”
“Oh, this one?”
Illein found herself studying quite comfortably with Damon and Melias.
Later that night, the three of them walked back from the library to their respective homes.
Since Damon’s house was beyond Illein’s, he accompanied her. Surprisingly, Melias, whose home was in the opposite direction, also tagged along.
“Arenât you supposed to be heading that way?”
Damon asked Melias, who looked a bit conflicted.
Illein, sensing Melias’s intention to escort her, quickly interjected.
“See you tomorrow.”
“Ah, yes. See you tomorrow.”
Illein wanted to avoid being alone with Melias, fearing another conversation about their engagement, so she sent him away.
Given Melias had helped her with the situation with Willai, she didnât find him as intimidating as before.
In life, people often marry less-than-ideal partners. Sometimes, they even marry strangers.
By comparison, Melias wasnât such a bad option.
With that thought, she sighed, accepting this compromise.
“Damon.”
“Yeah?”
She noticed he was staring at her and spoke up.
“Arenât you going to get married?”
Damon stopped walking, Illein stopped as well. She was two steps ahead of him, and he closed the distance as he replied.
“Why do you ask?”
“Just curious about when you plan to get married.”
As Illein started walking again, he followed closely, their shoulders almost touching.
“How did you become friends with Melias?”
“We were talking about marriage just now.”
Illein couldnât help but laugh as Damon tried to change the subject, confirming her suspicion that he wouldnât take such a conversation seriously.
“If you tell me how you became friends with Melias.”
Illein knew that Damon hated lies, making it awkward for her to respond. She feared the betrayal he might feel if he discovered the truth later. Yet, she wanted to be as honest as possible.
“My father introduced us. Since Iâm a water attribute, the Wignum Marquisate apparently needed someone with water abilities.”
“Oh, right. Their southern lands are all desert.”
Damon replied, somewhat disinterestedly.
“Melias is getting married soon.”
“What?”
“It seems like itâll happen right after he graduates from the academy.”
“Does, does he have a fiancĂ©e?”
“Yes, he does.”
For a moment, Illein had a vain hope that they might have found another water attribute, but she quickly dismissed the thought. If Melias had found someone else, he wouldnât have stayed to study with her.
Moreover, Bellaine Academy was the top academy in the Ensest Empire. Finding a water attribute outside this academy seemed unlikely.
“Is she older than Melias?”
Illein clung to the slim hope that perhaps the fiance was already a graduate and asked.
“No.”
“Younger?”
“Iâm not sure. I only asked if she was older.”
Illein felt it was best to change the subject, so she tried to steer the conversation in a different direction. However, Damon looked at her directly and said,
“I donât think Iâll ever get married.”
“Why?”
“Marriage requires the other person to accept, right?”
Illein was taken aback, her eyes widening in surprise.
“So, you like someone!”
“Uh.”
Illein was too stunned to ask who it was directly and could only look at him curiously.
But he didnât say anything more until they reached the Thierry mansion.
“Is it someone I know?”
Before they parted ways, Illein asked, hoping he would answer. Damon hesitated before responding.
“Yes. See you tomorrow.”
“Oh, okay! See you tomorrow!”
She replied with a big smile as she walked into the baronâs mansion.
It was surprising that Damon had a crush on someone. She thought he hadnât told her yet because he wasnât ready to share.
Illein made her way past the front gate towards the main building.
Even without servants, the baronâs mansion was quite large. It was a significant building awarded when the title was bestowed.
“Illein!”
“Kyaah!”
Illein screamed when she saw someone crouching in front of the main building.
“You!”
Realizing it was Willai, she was deeply shocked.
“Let me in too.”
“What? Why?”
“I want to see Lady Illenas.”
Illein sighed at his audacity.
“Illenas isnât here right now. Sheâs gone to the estate.”
“Donât lie. I know she didnât leave the mansion today.”
“How do you know that?”
“My knight was here.”
Then, a knight who had been standing behind Willai stepped forward with an awkward smile.
