Normally, I would have studied in the Central Library, but…

“Are you really okay? You’re not still sick, are you?”

Damon grabbed my wrist as I was about to leave, and I turned to look at him.

“I’m fine. I just need to study alone today.”

He reluctantly let go of my hand with a grimace.

I had to find a place where today’s incident couldn’t possibly happen.

So, here was my plan:

In the original story, after the chapter where Keleb gets knocked out, a significant incident occurs in the Central Library, and on the way home, I run into Edwin.

Then, somehow, Edwin finds out where Illein lives.

He starts encountering me by ‘chance’ and begins his obsession.

Delaying my return home would solve that issue.

To avoid the incident at the Central Library, I simply wouldn’t go there.

In the library, a book nearly falls on me, but Edwin saves me by stopping it.

Edwin ends up rescuing me. I shook my head to avoid dwelling on that thought.

Ideally, I wanted to marry someone kind and considerate.

Of course, in this world, marriage among nobility is more about alliances than love.

Moreover, having been born a woman but raised as a man.

I needed to find someone who would understand my secret and could lead my family.

Perhaps someone like the second son of a Baronial family. Someone without a title but with a clear status. And, importantly, someone with money. That person would be the ideal marriage partner for me.

But that was just my parents’ opinion.

If things got more complicated, I might have to marry a woman.

Possibly a high-ranking noblewoman with a lot of money but prone to causing trouble.

If asked which option is worse, it’s hard to say.

All I wanted was to live an ordinary life. Maybe because I worked myself to death in my past life, I wanted to maintain a work-life balance in this one.

But the risk was making a slight mistake and ending up captured by an obsessive madman whatever, possibly having broken ankles and facing a dire situation.

I hurriedly reached the library, which was about to close for the day.

On my way home, I didn’t run into Edwin, and I found a place where I could study legally without spending money, and it wasn’t the Central Library.

Even though it was nearly closing time, the old library wasn’t unattended.

It was maintained through magic, with just one librarian on duty.

“Oh, Illein?”

“Hello.”

“Are you here to study alone again?”

“Yes. May I enter?”

“Of course.”

The incident in the original story took place in the Central Library.

It involved an accident that occurred while borrowing a book on magical potions.

The old library stored books that were no longer accommodated by the Central Library but were too valuable to discard.

This place was quite secluded, located on the opposite side of the Central Library. I went inside.

Among these ancient books, there were sure to be ones on magical potions.

Those books were on the third floor, but I was heading up to the fifth floor.

I could find and read the potion book tomorrow.

But I couldn’t afford not to study.

To remain student council president and a scholarship recipient, giving up on my studies wasn’t an option.

Edwin was a problem, but my grades were also a concern.

Especially since, as a baron’s child, I needed a report card proving my capabilities to secure a respectable position after graduating from the academy.

Becoming a civil servant would allow me to part ways, to some extent, with my parents, who were keen on trading me off in marriage.

Given that they had raised me and expected me to repay them, staying together for a long time seemed unlikely.

I sighed, shouldered my bag, and headed to the fifth floor.

The sixth floor was completely dark and eerily quiet, so I didn’t venture up there.

The fifth floor was lined with books on transformation magic.

Advanced transformation magic is so difficult that most people resort to using potions.

However, those talented in transformation magic can perform it without potions or wands, using special tools like the ring I possess.

I realized I needed to study the subject of transformation further.

I could get help with the potions from Damon tomorrow.

Belaine Academy holds exams at the end of the fourth year that cover all subjects.

If I don’t achieve good grades in this exam, all my efforts over the past four years will have been in vain.

For someone like me, for whom grades are crucial, it’s imperative to score well in this exam.

Despite being a rare attribute, water elementals are not highly regarded in this world.

This is because rain is plentiful, and with many rivers and the sea nearby, the demand for water-related magic is low.

Additionally, the healing ability that water elementalists often possess is not unique due to the existence of priests. This makes finding a job even more challenging.

That’s why it’s essential for me to graduate with honors from the academy and secure a job as a civil servant.

Civil servants receive a high salary and enjoy a good work-life balance.

Why did it have to be the water ability?

I sometimes wonder if it would have been better if I were born with flashy abilities like fire or wind.

With so many great abilities out there, I ended up with water.
