Trigger warning: This chapter contains graphic descriptions of violence and gore, which may be distressing or triggering to some readers. Reader discretion is strongly advised.

Today, his eyelids felt unusually heavy. Yeshion thought he could open them, but all he managed was a faint flicker before they closed again.

“…Ah!”

He thought he heard Rosaline’s voice, but he couldn’t be sure. After that sound faded away, he couldn’t tell if he’d fallen asleep again or simply fainted.

“…so…is he…?”

This time, it was Eldis’s voice. His tone was deeper and heavier than usual, as if burdened with worry.

Yeshion wanted to ask what was wrong, but his eyelids refused to open, and no sound came from his lips. After several fruitless attempts, he eventually gave up and lay still.

Perhaps he blacked out again; afterward, silence surrounded him for a long while.

‘Have I been that tired lately?’

Then again, he hadn’t slept comfortably for quite some time, so his body must have accumulated exhaustion.

But now, he wished to stop sleeping and wake properly. If he continued like this, there was no knowing when he might return to the temple.

“Uugh…”

Just as he struggled to open his eyes with those thoughts, a cool hand gently pressed down on his shoulder, and a voice spoke.

“If you move, your wounds will open again. I know it’s uncomfortable, but please don’t move.”

It was Eldis’s voice.

But wounds—what did he mean by wounds? Yeshion desperately wanted to open his eyes, but they felt impossibly heavy from being shut for so long.

“Just… sleep a little longer. Until then, I promise to heal you somehow.”

A large hand gently stroked his forehead and hair.

There was such sadness in Eldis’s voice that Yeshion was puzzled. He wanted to ask why, but again, no sound emerged, and strength drained from his body.

‘…I’ll just sleep a bit longer.’

If it was urgent, someone would surely wake him. They’d tell him what had happened.

‘I’m sleepy…’

He felt he’d already slept more than enough, yet the fact that he grew sleepy again after barely waking suggested he still lacked sufficient rest.

After drifting back into slumber, Yeshion couldn’t tell how much time had passed when he awoke again.

Unlike before, this time he could clearly see his surroundings.

As he blinked several times, his blurry vision finally came into focus. Soon, Yeshion realized he was lying in his room at the temple.

‘…Why am I here? I was surely in the Mishemol Duchy.’

Yeshion had no memory of returning to the temple. But that wasn’t his only concern.

“Ugh…ugh…”

When he opened his mouth to speak, all that emerged was a faint groan of pain and fever.

This heat wasn’t like the kind he’d felt after sleeping with Adelio. Rather, it was a pure, agonizing pain, as if his entire body were twisting and burning.

“Even this medicine isn’t working…”

Unable to remember why he was in such pain, Yeshion could only move his lips weakly. Then he heard a familiar voice next to him. With great difficulty, he turned his head slightly to see Adelio’s worried face beside him.

“Adel…io…”

His voice was so faint it was barely audible, yet Adelio urgently moved closer.

“Yeshion! Yeshion! You’re awake? Can you hear me?”

“Yes…”

Just speaking a single word was exhausting. Keeping conscious and even breathing felt impossibly difficult.

“Ha… thank god… Thank god.”

Holding Yeshion’s hand in both of his, Adelio wore an expression that looked close to tears. Yet, beneath that relief was a clear struggle to suppress some intense emotion.

“Adel…”

“Wait just a little longer. I’ll bring more medicine for you.”

“…..”

“You’ll get better. So don’t ever give up. I haven’t given up, nor Eldis, nor anyone else.”

Leaving those words behind, Adelio rushed out of the room. Hearing him urgently call out for Eldis somewhere down the hallway, Yeshion was relieved—it seemed they’d reconciled since that day.

‘That day…?’

Had those two fought before?

As he carefully traced back through his memories, fragments slowly surfaced.

The purification at the Mishemol Duchy, the banquet at the mansion, and…

Edward.

The moment that memory appeared, Yeshion felt a sharp pain at the back of his head.

Yes, that day he’d definitely been stabbed. So many times he couldn’t clearly recall exactly how many.

He remembered feeling pain at the first stab, and afterward, struggling desperately not to lose consciousness.

He’d felt Adelio being forcibly pulled away from him as startled priests rushed forward.
