Yeshion clutched his forehead and flopped dramatically to the side.

‘…Is transmigration always this exhausting?’

After all, it’s one thing to read about it in a novel, but another to experience it firsthand

With hollowed eyes, Yeshion let out a shallow sigh.

“…I never thought life could be this hard.”

It was already dizzying enough to be possessing a villain who committed every kind of wrongdoing imaginable—who would’ve thought even his family would be tangled up in this mess?

“B-But still, now that the misunderstanding is cleared up, isn’t that better?”

“The family’s already been torn to shreds, though.”

Adelio added bluntly to Rosaline’s words.

…Well, yes. It was still better than being suspected of treason, he supposed.

“Still, yeah, I mean… if my entire family had been executed because of some misunderstanding… I’d probably want revenge too.”

The reason ‘Yeshion’ in the original story committed all those terrible acts. The reason he tried to kill Adelio.

It had been revenge. Nothing more, nothing less.

The House of Azelist had been a noble count family tasked with guarding the borders under Grand Duke Rosellon.

Everyone in the family, once of age, was sent as knights to defend the Empire’s frontiers. ‘Yeshion’ had been destined for the same fate.

If only the Empress hadn’t started whispering nonsense.

“…The Empress.”

Yeshion bit down hard on his lip.

Had there really been a reason the Empress needed to eliminate Duke Rosellon?

“She said… he never intended to rebel…”

In general, a duke is considered a potential successor when the royal family has no children. But with Crown Prince Adelio already established, what reason could there have been to get rid of them?

“Wait.”

Turning this over in his mind, Yeshion suddenly looked toward Adelio.

“The Empress.”

“…?”

“Execution…”

The Empress had in her hands, the information about the curse and then suddenly ordered Adelio’s execution.

Not only that—she wiped out Duke Rosellon’s entire house and the nobles who followed him.

‘Why?’

Was it purely a grab for power? Or did she want to place someone else on the throne?

“No matter how power-hungry she was… would she kill her own son…”

Yeshion cut himself off mid sentence. Truly power-hungry people often didn’t hesitate to slaughter their own blood.

“Her own son?”

“S-Sorry. I didn’t mean to…”

He clamped his mouth shut as soon as he realized the rudeness of what he’d just blurted out.

But Adelio shook his head, unfazed.

“It’s fine. The current Empress isn’t my birth mother.”

“…She isn’t?”

“Yeah. My mother was falsely accused and driven out. A former concubine took her place as Empress.”

And suddenly, it all started to click into place.

The Empress had spent years systematically eliminating every possible heir to the throne.

First the Duke. Then Adelio, who held the title of Crown Prince.

And after that… perhaps even the Emperor.

‘Then… did the Empress know I was from the House of Azelist?’

Who had the real ‘Yeshion’ truly been aiming for? Was it the Empress? Or was he simply so blinded by revenge that he wanted to see the imperial bloodline bathed in carnage?

‘I need evidence.’

With this much circumstantial certainty, everything the real ‘Yeshion’ had been doing would count as proof.

They had sent an assassin the moment Yeshion failed to remember his mission. That meant the real ‘Yeshion’ must have known quite a bit.

‘That voice I heard earlier…’

The illusion he saw just before transitioning into the nineteenth round.

There had been a voice—clear and vivid—in that vision. A lilting voice that, after ordering every wicked act imaginable, dared to say, “Now I trust you.”

The owner of that voice had even threatened to kill Eldis without a second thought.

‘Was it the Empress? Or just some noble?’

Could an ordinary priest even have an audience with the Empress? If so, then maybe the Empress had known all along that the real ‘Yeshion’ was from the House of Azelist.

His head throbbed, but for now, there was only one conclusion he could reach.

He had to meet them.

The ‘Yeshion’ in that vision had been meeting with those people not in the temple, but elsewhere.

That must’ve been why he often left the temple, and why he never told others where he was going.
