Axion recalled the woman who had spoken so eloquently about love.

Her name was Sasha Dilottete, wasn’t it?

Unlike Lionel Luanax, who seemed like he wouldn’t bleed even if stabbed with a needle, she was the opposite. A woman who seemed made from nothing but the sweetest, softest things in the world.

A small, pale face with delicately arranged features, all of them gently rounded. The braid of pale pink hair looked as soft as a baby bird’s down.

Was she pretty?

Yes, undeniably so.

She had a beauty so unlike Vivian Luanax, the capital’s reigning jewel, and yet she held a quiet allure that made it hard to look away.

Axion felt he instantly understood what had drawn Lionel in.

He too had felt a shiver run down his spine the moment she came into view, as though he had encountered something he’d long desired.

But even if they saw the same thing, what he wanted from it was utterly different from Lionel.

When she nervously stiffened as she offered her first greeting, were those eyes filled with fear? Or unease?

He had done nothing, yet she already looked at him like that.

He couldn’t help but imagine it… what it would look like if she were truly pushed to fear. If those wide, clear eyes brimmed with tears, how beautiful would it be?

He thought she belonged to him, not Lionel.

The fact that the word love flowed so easily from her chattering lips, and that its object was Lionel Luanax, displeased him.

That those starry eyes gazed upon him in rapture, he didn’t like that either.

He wanted to trample that so-called love of hers, that love which claimed to surpass all desire.

He wanted to erase her smile.

He wanted to see her tearful face, those round, crescent eyes swollen red from crying.

Such were the thoughts Axion harbored when he looked at the woman.

He felt like he had to take her. Tear her apart. Bring her to rock bottom. Only when she was crawling in despair, utterly broken, could he be satisfied.

And so, what he had to do was clear.

“I’ll take her.”

He would help Dana steal the woman from Lionel’s hands.

“…What?”

It slipped out before she realized, and only then did Dana fully understand Axion’s intent.

There was a kind of madness that ran through the veins of the Lubarque royal bloodline,

an obsessive mania so extreme it defied reason.

When it manifested for good, it revived the Empire and secured dominion over the continent. But when it fixated on the wrong thing, it summoned rivers of blood.

Especially after they began making contracts with the new shadows lurking in the Imperial Palace. From that point on, they committed horrific acts with shocking ease, free of guilt.

As the late Emperor had.

As their father had.

So Dana understood Axion.

She, too, felt something similar toward Lionel.

She never once blushed at the sight of him like the other girls her age. She never smiled sweetly while daydreaming of some idyllic future.

There was only a grotesque, gnawing desire, to have him, even if it meant breaking him.

This was a good thing.

With Axion now interested in the woman, their chances of failure had just plummeted.

She had gained a powerful ally.

“When will you ask His Majesty?”

“Not today.”

Today was the one day each year when the Imperial Family renewed their contracts with the Shadows.

At midnight, the direct descendants of the imperial bloodline were to gather for the ritual. Each was required to offer their own prepared sacrifice.

“You haven’t forgotten, have you?”

“Of course not. I’ve had my offering ready for a while now.”

Lately, she’d grown increasingly displeased with the maids attending her. Perhaps it had been a mistake to choose fallen nobles for the sake of avoiding complications.

‘That wench could’ve been dealt with too while I was at it.’

It was a pity she wouldn’t get the chance.

Once the woman fell into Axion’s hands, she would have no choice but to step back.

Still, what could she do?

If one wished to obtain what they truly desired, they had to be willing to give up the trivial things.

They are absolutely insane and need to be wiped out! I never understand how tyrants are able to run things in novels for generations…. That would never be possible IRL. People would revolt if their leaders were like these assholes, it’s just not normal. Also, I cannot wait for this b* to be put in his place. Both of them actually. You JUST met her. How DARE you think she’s yours when she already has a fiancé and is “pregnant”. What a psycho

Also, if “God” gave her and Lionel the power to regress and divine power that can even see the future and heal. They better have power enough to counter these “shadows”. If not, what’s the point
