It Seems Like The Infamous Trash Can is Right Here! - Chapter 156
“In that spirit, shall we work on healing a scar again today?”
Lionel’s smile softened as he looked at me, my eyes twinkling.
“Let’s do that.”
Since our shared bedroom likely hadn’t been tidied yet, we headed to the annex library instead.
The scar on the inside of his left wrist didn’t require him to undress, so it should be easy to heal.
But then.
While walking the path that connected the garden to the annex, I suddenly saw something sluggishly dragging itself in the shadow of the building. It looked like a clump of ashen dust.
‘Huh? What is that?’
I didn’t know what it was, but it was immensely unsettling.
It felt like a diluted version of that grotesque sensation I’d experienced in the Imperial Palace.
‘Can’t Lionel see this?’
I stole a glance at his expression, then subtly shifted direction toward the crawling dust.
His silence suggested he either didn’t perceive its presence or dismissed it as too insignificant to notice.
It probably wasn’t anything particularly dangerous, but it gave me the same feeling I get when I spot a cockroach: I just couldn’t ignore it.
After all, the Luanax estate was my home now, wasn’t it.
Even if it had more traffic than a public square thanks to the three male leads of A Night of Entwined Serpents, this thing was clearly an unwelcome guest.
‘But how do I get rid of it…?’
I was debating whether I should just tell Lionel where it was and ask him to stab it when…
A sudden flush of heat bloomed above my navel, where the sacred stigmata lay.
A familiar window flashed before my eyes.
A remnant of the Evil god has been detected.
Do you wish to eradicate it?
‘Uh…?’
The divine power inside me was urging me to eliminate the grotesque clump of ashen dust.
Well, obviously… if I can get rid of it, of course I want to.
The moment I thought it, a new message bloomed.
Manifestation of divinity: Type – Punishment.
Punishment?
Wasn’t that an ability that only manifested through a holy knight?
Lionel, noticing the faint light spilling from my body, stopped in his tracks and turned toward me.
“Is something wrong…?”
“Ah, it’s just… there’s a suspicious bug over there. I want to take care of it before we move on… could I borrow your sword, maybe?”
Though his gaze narrowed in confusion, Lionel said nothing and unbuckled the rapier from his belt, handing it to me.
I wondered if it would work, but the moment the blade settled in my grip, it too began to shimmer faintly.
‘With this much, it should be way less unpleasant.’
With Lionel watching, I crept slowly toward the ashen dust. After a deep breath, I prodded it gently with the tip of the blade.
It was meant to be a light touch, but the reaction was anything but light.
—KYYYYAAAAAAHHH!
A piercing shriek tore through the air.
“Ahh! What the hell?!”
I bolted behind Lionel, heart pounding so violently I thought it might burst from my chest.
He stared in disbelief, looking between the rolling ball of dust on the ground and me.
“Did you… stab that? With this sword?”
“Yes… Can you see it now? And hear it?”
He nodded slowly at my question.
“I can see and hear it.”
“Do you know what it is?”
As he leaned down, I cupped my hands around his ear and whispered,
“It’s supposedly a remnant of the Evil God.”
His eyes widened.
Even as we whispered back and forth, the thing was still screeching, though with every passing second, its shape shrank smaller and smaller. Luckily, the smaller it got, the quieter it became, until eventually, it was nearly inaudible.
Only then did I step out from behind Lionel and walk up to it with confidence.
And stomped it flat beneath my foot.
—Kkek!
With that final shriek of death, it vanished without a trace.
