It Seems Like The Infamous Trash Can is Right Here! - Chapter 157
The remnant of the evil god has been eradicated.
The polite message signaling the conclusion of the situation allowed me to breathe a little easier.
“It says it’s done.”
“…I see.”
Lionel accepted the rapier from me wearing a grim expression, and inspected its tip.
Nothing appeared to be clinging to it.
“I’ll need to confirm what its purpose was in infiltrating my estate.”
“Is there a way to find out? I mean, at first, you couldn’t even see it, right?”
“We’ll be able to narrow down the culprit easily enough.”
Well, that makes sense.
It had to be either the Crown Prince or the Youngest Princess.
“If you see anything like that again, please be sure to tell me immediately.”
“Okay, I will.”
Having done away with the unwanted pest, after making sure the faint glow lingering on my body had completely faded, I followed Lionel into the annex.
“You know, I’ve thought this before, but don’t you think the divine might be playing favorites with me?”
As I chatted on the way to the annex library, he let out a quiet chuckle.
“There must be a good reason for that.”
“Hmm, I’m not so sure. Maybe I tricked Him. Bet He’s regretting it by now.”
“I doubt that very much.”
Lionel probably just didn’t know how much I prioritized self-preservation.
“You got tricked too, you know.”
I muttered it more to myself than to him.
The annex library, which I hadn’t set foot in for what felt like ages thanks to everything that had happened lately, welcomed us with its usual stillness.
That familiar scent of old books greeted me like an old friend.
“Do you like books that much?”
“Of course. For a while, they were my only friends.”
Honestly, before recovering my memories from my previous life, I hadn’t been all that into reading.
There were just too many other fun and thrilling things to do.
…Or maybe it was because at the monastery, there were no books to enjoy reading except for dense theological texts. After being worked to the bone from dawn to dusk, I’d just pass out from exhaustion anyway.
Still, ever since coming here, I’ve been reading diligently.
Lionel shrugged off his jacket and draped it over a chair, then unfastened the cuff on his left sleeve and rolled it up.
“Do you remember how this happened?”
As I carefully cupped the scar across his wrist, he shook his head.
“Of the scars still left on my body, I don’t remember many. I haven’t really been hurt much since losing my memories.”
Fair enough, if needed, he could have gone to the Temple for healing.
The remaining scars were likely from wounds received in places where that wasn’t an option.
“Okay then, I’ll begin.”
Lionel gave a small nod, tension visible in his face.
“I’m in your hands.”
Manifestation of divinity: Type – Healing
For surface-level scar healing, a low-tier divine power would have sufficed.
But if I wanted to help him recover as many memories as possible, I had to push it to the highest intensity.
Intensity of manifestation: High. Target: Lionel Luanax.
I forced the enormous amount of divine power that was somehow even greater than what I’d wielded yesterday, into his body.
And then, without warning, without my intention, a vision overtook me once more.
Given the depth of the wound, I’d expected a scene from battle. But instead, a quiet stillness surrounded me. At dusk, Lionel stood with his back to a building.
And the one he was facing was me.
Serenia Solen. I was there, in the memory Lionel could no longer recall.
‘Serenia… what are you saying.’
His voice trembled terribly.
‘You’re calling off the engagement?’
‘That’s exactly what I’m saying.’
In contrast, the me standing before him answered with calm certainty.
‘Let’s end this, Lionel.’
‘Why? Why are you doing this all of a sudden? After everything we’ve been through to get here-’
Lionel shook his head in disbelief.
‘There’s… something going on, isn’t there? If you tell me what it is, I can-’
‘Of course there’s a reason.’
