It Seems Like The Infamous Trash Can is Right Here! - Chapter 162
I had been healing Lionel’s scars every single day, and thanks to that, he was recovering his memories at a swift pace.
The biggest change from this was that he had come to know me very well. He could read my thoughts just by my expression.
But this time, he was wrong.
I wasn’t angry… I was sulking!
If asked what the difference was, I could only answer: in many ways, it’s different.
“I’m not.”
Lionel was terribly busy. He had always had much to do, but after my father and brother’s visit, he became even more so.
To stand against the Imperial Family, he worked with the information guild now under his command to secure key families for our side, while also rushing to complete the marriage procedures to protect me.
Would I really whine to such a man that I was exhausted from trying on ten gowns in a row?
Lionel had no need to apologize to me. It wasn’t even something worth an apology.
All I had to do was let go of the sulking on my own. After just one night, by tomorrow morning, I would be perfectly fine again.
Lionel must have realized it too… that at times like this, the best thing was to leave me alone.
While pretending to read, he quietly watched me, then propped a few more pillows against my back. He even placed a cushion over my knees.
After that, he brought me easy-to-eat snacks and a drink.
“……”
Thanks to him, I grew comfortable in every way.
Lionel, after washing up, sat beside me and read as well.
In truth, I hadn’t even noticed him leave to bathe. But when I grew absorbed in the second sister’s romance, turned the page, and found myself sniffling, a handkerchief was quietly offered into my hand, and only then did I realize.
“…Thank you.”
At my words of thanks, he smiled faintly before returning to his book, his damp hair still carrying the sheen of water.
From the moment I glimpsed him lounging in his silk robe, leaning with ease against the bed, I could no longer focus on reading.
Heavy-lidded eyes, the long lashes casting shadows above them, lips curved faintly in a smile, all of it hovered endlessly in my thoughts.
Once broken, my concentration was not easily restored.
I flipped pages carelessly until Lionel suddenly spoke to me.
“Serenia, you must be very tired today.”
Closing his book and setting it aside, he turned toward me.
“Even if we simplify matters, preparing for a Duke’s wedding is no small task. There must be countless details weighing on you. Forgive me for not being of more help.”
His gentle, consoling voice undid me in an instant.
“It’s my fault too, for having you fit ten dresses all at once. I didn’t realize how exhausting it would be. I was too greedy.”
He sighed softly as he clasped my hand.
“Madam Charlene seemed… a bit unhinged.”
“Not a bit. A lot.”
I hastily corrected him. He should have seen those gleaming, feverish eyes himself.
“Still, her reputation is well earned. Her skill is remarkable.”
The wedding gown was one thing, but even the other dresses were breathtakingly beautiful. I found myself looking forward to the day they would be finished.
“I’m glad to hear it.”
He smiled, and without meaning to, I smiled too.
Ah…
This wasn’t how it was supposed to be….
I’d planned to sulk until tomorrow morning.
Then, suddenly, he stroked my palm with his thumb and made a suggestion.
“You must be carrying so much fatigue. What if I gave you a massage? It should help relax your muscles and ease the tension.”
