Me, the Weakest Member of the Hero’s Party? I’m the Villain Though? - Chapter 92
“I can feel the presence of monsters in the area.”
“Are they close?”
If there were monsters nearby, we would have to move the campsite. But Kyle stopped walking, looked back at me, and said,
“Not close. I feel it from the direction of the snow mountains. We’ll need to be careful tomorrow.”
If Kyle was saying we needed to be careful, then they were probably high-level monsters. Or there were a lot of them. Neither possibility was very welcome.
I was looking worriedly toward the snow mountains, now swallowed by darkness, when Kyle moved right up beside me. He placed a hand on my shoulder and asked,
“Aren’t you cold? Your clothes look thinner than I expected.”
Even though I was wearing thick winter clothes, they seemed thin to Kyle.
“I can manage.”
It was a little chilly, but not enough to make me shiver. I did hate the cold, but Lysian’s body was holding up against it fairly well.
“Here, keep this on.”
Suddenly, Kyle took off his cloak and draped it over my shoulders. I was already wearing a thick cloak, so with another one layered over it, it felt heavy and stifling.
“It’s fine, you don’t have to give it to me.”
Kyle stepped in front of me and tried to fasten the cloak himself, so I tried to push him away. But instead, he grabbed my hand and pulled it down.
“Just keep it on. I’m not going to charge you for it.”
After fastening the cloak, Kyle carefully straightened the fur trim. It felt heavier than the cloak I had been wearing.
Come to think of it, this wasn’t the first time Kyle had given me his cloak. He had done the same in the prisoner transport carriage when we were being taken to the Imperial Capital, and he had often covered me with it during camp as well.
“Why do you always wear a cloak?”
I had missed the timing to give it back, so I just awkwardly fiddled with the cloak as I asked.
“It’s not an ordinary cloak. It’s enchanted. If an unexpected attack comes, the cloak will defend me.”
Hearing his explanation, I remembered seeing it in the original story. Like the legendary sword Fragarach, this was one of the items he had obtained with great difficulty.
As I thought about Fragarach, my eyes went to the sword hanging at Kyle’s waist. Following my gaze, Kyle looked down and smiled as he grabbed the hilt.
“What, want to take a look?”
I had never imagined I would actually see the divine sword that could cut through anything. Honestly, it looked cool, and I couldn’t help feeling curious.
“Is that okay?”
Kyle immediately drew the sword and handed it to me. The blade that settled into my palm was chillingly cold, and it was far heavier than I had imagined.
“Pretty heavy, right?”
Seeing my surprise at the unexpected weight, Kyle asked with a grin. For some reason, it felt like he was laughing at me, which bruised my pride a little.
“I can handle it.”
So I answered calmly on purpose, pretending it was nothing. But Kyle seemed to notice I was putting on a front, and he took a step back and said,
“Really? Then try swinging it.”
His tone sounded like he was testing me, as if he was sure I wouldn’t be able to do it.
Even though I was pretending to be a powerless human right now, I was still a dragon. There was no way I couldn’t even swing a single legendary sword.
I gripped the hilt tightly and lifted the blade so that the edge faced upward. Since I had never swung a sword before, my stance was extremely awkward.
There was no way Kyle wouldn’t notice. After watching me hold the sword stiffly, he quietly stepped behind me.
“Stay like that for a moment. Your shoulders are too raised. Relax and stand comfortably.”
Kyle stood close against my back and placed his hands on my shoulders, kneading them. It was a little embarrassing, but I tried to relax as he instructed.
“Pull your elbows in a little more, and move your wrists forward.”
As he spoke, his hands slid down from my shoulders. His firm chest pressed against my back, and I could feel his warmth.
He was speaking right next to my ear, and his breath brushed against it, making the skin there prickle.
“Wait…”
“You smell nice, Lysian.”
I tried to push Kyle away because he was standing too close, but he suddenly buried his nose at the nape of my neck and muttered.
“W-What are you talking about…!”
This time I was truly flustered. The shoulders I had just relaxed tensed up again as I tried to turn around. But Kyle held onto me, wrapping his arms around my body and not letting go.
“Let go.”
“No. Your reactions are too fun. I don’t want to let you go.”
Kyle seemed to be enjoying teasing me. He chuckled softly, loosened his grip on the wrist he had been holding, and then pulled me into a tight embrace.
