He noticed me as well.
Gerard took off the coat he was wearing and quickly approached me.
“If you had been one minute later, wanted posters with your face would’ve been hung throughout the empire.”
The roomy coat wrapped around my shoulders. The warmth lingering in its lining was lukewarm. When I looked up, the tip of his nose was tinged red.
“I haven’t done anything that would get me placed on a wanted poster.”
“Then I’ll make them missing-child flyers.”

My gaze happened to fall upon his right hand, which was trembling again. Perhaps he was accustomed to hiding it. Gerard paid no attention to his own pain and focused solely on the cold I might be feeling.
After hesitating briefly, I took his right hand and lifted it toward me.
The warmth that had always been so comforting it felt as though it could melt me had gone cold.
How long had he been waiting for me here?
His cold hand upset me and left me feeling uncomfortable.
“Let’s go inside first.”
I gripped his hand firmly and led him inside.
Thud. The instant the iron gate closed, Gerard seized my body, turned me around, and cupped both my cheeks. His scent suddenly filled the space before my nose.
“Gerard!”
He stopped just before our lips touched.
“Weren’t you going to do it for me?”
“No!”
“Since we’re already here, why don’t you do it once?”
“……”
“I’ll suck you until you come.”
His languid, loosened voice was seductive. Despite being born into a grand ducal family, he freely spoke such vulgar words. Meanwhile, I was the one from a lower social class, yet I had never said such things or even imagined them before.
I desperately ignored the goosebumps rising along the back of my neck.

Disappointment settled over the eyes that had been burning with lust. With a face overflowing with lingering desire, he released my cheeks.
I immediately broke away from him and crossed the living room. After turning on the light in the dim room, I carelessly placed his coat and the book I had bought at the bookstore on the sofa.
“Stay here. I’ll purify you shortly.”
Since I wasn’t going to perform deep contact purification, there would’ve been no problem starting the purification immediately. Perhaps because our meeting had been so sudden, though, I needed a moment to calm down.
After confirming that he had entered the bathroom, I changed my clothes.
Even then, I couldn’t calm down easily, so I sat on the bed for a while and took several deep breaths.
When I returned to the living room, he had apparently only washed his hands, because he was already occupying the sofa.
But why was the book I had bought in his hands? The newspaper that had wrapped it had been removed neatly without a single tear and was lying on the table.
“That…!”
“You read books like this too?”
Gerard asked without taking his eyes off the book.
Had he noticed that I had no interest in reading? We had spent nearly two months together, and I had never once read a book in front of him, so it was understandable that he might have realized it.
I somehow felt as though he were looking down on me, and a strange stubborn pride rose within me.
“…I read often.”
“That’s unexpected.”
He really had been looking down on me.
“Perhaps not as much as you, but I read quite a bit too. I simply don’t have the time. They said the next volume of that will be released soon… I’ll probably be the first person to buy and read it.”
I moved closer and sat beside him before holding out my palm. Gerard kept his gaze fixed upon the book and laced his fingers through mine instead.
I placed my other hand over the back of his and began the purification.
“Is this what you like?”
“…Well, I do like it.”
“The sight of the once-domineering superior bound and sobbing was quite something.”
“What?”
