“She wouldn’t lie over something as trivial as a dress color.”

“Right. She probably wouldn’t lie. But she changes dresses every hour. She’ll say she’s wearing yellow, then an hour later she comes out in a pale sky-blue dress, I’m telling you.”

“Then if it overlaps for about an hour, that can’t be helped.”

“But she always calls over the girl wearing the same color dress and stands her right beside her, like a bridesmaid! Do you know how humiliating it is to be compared like that?”

As if it had happened to her several times, Chelsea shouted until her face turned red.

“My, Chelsea, she did that to you too?”

“She even got me photographed!”

The Purifiers who had been eavesdropping on our conversation suddenly cut in.

I was the only one left out, unable to relate because I had never once been invited to a banquet.

And with Arvina not here, the level of the Purifiers’ gossip began to rise in earnest.

“She’s definitely doing it on purpose. I’m sure she enjoys completely crushing people and then watching their expressions.”

“Shouldn’t someone at Arvina’s level have graduated early by now? I heard even the priest suggested it several times.”

“She says she doesn’t like early graduation because it feels like a shortcut. She says she wants to climb up properly from the bottom just like everyone else. It’s ridiculous.”

“While we’re always the ones getting hurt because everyone’s busy taking care of that precious Saintess.”

It seemed they all had quite a bit of resentment built up inside.

“To be honest, the way she acts so cold toward Lord Castion is ridiculous too. Who does Odriann think she is.”

My ears, which had stayed indifferent the whole time, suddenly perked up.

I hated that my body reacted the moment Gerard was mentioned, even though it was the same kind of gossip as before.

“I also think it’s all a lie when she says she’s not interested in Lord Castion. She just likes that Lord Castion is so desperate for her, that’s all.”

“Is Arvina really the woman Lord Castion forgot?”

“Wait… Hasn’t Lord Castion been quiet lately? He hasn’t even been coming to the temple. Don’t tell me, that Arvina…? Maybe she thinks she got dumped, and she’s only now panicking and hurriedly threw this banquet and sent invitations—”

BAM!

“What do you all think you’re doing right now!”

A sharp shout rang out thunderously.

The Purifiers who had been chattering away in excitement all froze and turned their heads.

It was Reverend Edmond, glaring fiercely with anger blazing in his eyes. Beside him stood Arvina, her face expressionless.

Arvina, who had no business with the west annex.

A blade-like silence fell over the waiting room. No one could so much as let out a breath carelessly.

Arvina tried to maintain her composure, but the tension in the teeth biting her lower lip, and the fingertips clutching her skirt hem, revealed her agitation in full.

“……”

In the end, moisture welled in her eyes.

With a face that looked as though she were holding back tears, Arvina turned and left the waiting room.

The purification practice was canceled in its entirety.

To be exact, the higher ranks’ practice went on as scheduled, and only the lower ranks’ practice, where the problem had occurred, was canceled.

As an exception, only Arvina returned straight to the estate immediately after the incident.

“Are you all out of your minds?!”

The furious roar came flying down over the crowns of the lower-ranked Purifiers, who stood with their heads bowed.

We had done nothing but remain shut in the waiting room of the annex for over an hour, under the charge of daring to insult the temple’s Saintess.

“Arvina came here on purpose and insisted on practicing here with you because she thought it was unfair that only lower ranks like you were being pushed into the annex, and this is the level of your thinking?!”

The scolding, laced with contempt, showed no sign of ending.

The loud yelling was enough to make my ears ring.

Still, there was only one thing I prayed for desperately.

Please, just don’t give me demerits.
