The autumn season of harvest. From preparing for the festival to the final banquet, it was the busiest time of year for Courtney. But she was no longer the novice Crown Princess who once trembled over a single banquet decoration. She only needed to do as she did every year, and even if unexpected problems arose, she could handle them.
Thus, she brought the harvest festival season to a smooth and uneventful close. Spending a leisurely afternoon for the first time in a while, Courtney suddenly noticed something strange.
No wonder things felt much easier than last year or the year before. It’s because she hadn’t paid any attention to Richard at all during this time.
That made sense, though. The puppy who would have usually whined if ignored was exceptionally well-behaved this time. Not that things had become awkward between them.
As always, they ate together as a family as much as possible, even with the twins, and when they found spare moments, the two of them occasionally had tea time together. Both of them were so busy that they couldn’t spend much time alone, but still.
The same went for yesterday, when the banquet was held. He escorted her affectionately the whole time, and after complimenting her on her hard work, he walked her all the way to the bedroom door. Since he showed no hint of disappointment, Courtney saw him off at the door without a second thought.

In that case, it was only right to reward him. Courtney turned to one of her ladies-in-waiting.
“Clara, could you tell His Majesty the Emperor that I’ll be sleeping in the marital bedroom tonight?”
“Yes, understood.”
She immediately left the room. Courtney sank back into deep thought. With the Empress lost in serious contemplation, all the servants were careful to avoid disturbing her. They assumed she must be pondering some grave matter they couldn’t possibly help with.
And in fact, Courtney was thinking about a problem no one could help her with. A most profound question.
What kind of play should we do tonight?
Since it had been quite a while since they’d had a break, perhaps she should start with something light for a warm-up. Still, it wouldn’t do to simply give the usual reward in the usual style, and that wouldn’t be satisfying enough. As his Master, she needed to show him something overwhelming and unforgettable.

She had to craft the perfect scenario, always one step ahead, never giving him a moment’s rest. Simply going hard for the sake of it wasn’t the answer; the key was to strike at just the right moment with an unexpected performance.

With the gentlest of expressions, she finished her most obscene and terrifying plan for tonight’s play.
