The entire time we pushed through the forest path, I sank into deep anguish. I was buried in thoughts about the Black Flame Dragon, the mana crystals, and the Dark God.

“Lysian, are you okay?”

Kyle must have been worried because I was quiet, because he asked carefully.

“…Yeah.”

I had been lost in thought, so my answer came about a beat late. Kyle seemed to think it was because I was tired, so he suggested that the group rest.

“We’ve been moving without resting since morning, so let’s rest for a bit. We can eat a simple lunch too.”

We had set out early in the morning, but before I knew it, lunchtime had already passed. And yet we still hadn’t gotten out of the forest. Just how large was this forest?

While the group tied up the horses and sat here and there to eat snacks, I stood there blankly and looked around the forest.

My head was completely complicated. I had to struggle to hold back the sighs that kept trying to slip out.

“What are you thinking so hard about?”

But then Kyle suddenly placed a hand around my shoulder, startling me into turning my head.

“What?”

The moment my eyes met Kyle’s, I remembered how those blue eyes had shone in the darkness the day before, and heat rushed to my face.

On top of that, Kyle ended up catching that sight head-on.

“Your face is red. Don’t tell me you have a fever? Did you catch a cold?”

Kyle reached out on his own and touched my forehead. He must have thought I had caught a cold because I had gone around wet yesterday.

“Lysian, do you have a fever? Should I take a look?”

Elonen must have heard the conversation too, because he asked worriedly. Afraid that Kyle might reveal what had happened between us yesterday, I quickly waved my hand.

“No, I don’t have a fever, and I’m not tired either.”

I was actively appealing to the group that I was fine when I saw Caesar approaching. I wondered if he had also come to check on my condition.

“Do you have a moment to talk?”

But Caesar made an unexpected request for a conversation.

“What are you trying to talk about? Why not just say it here?”

Kyle answered more sharply than I did. Caesar looked straight at Kyle’s face and replied calmly.

“If I asked to talk separately, doesn’t that naturally mean I’m trying to talk about something private?”

Afraid that a fight might break out, I had no choice but to step in and mediate. I placed a hand on Kyle’s shoulder to show that it was all right and said,

“I’ll just go talk with him for a moment.”

In any case, I had also been thinking that I wanted to talk with Caesar. Partly to explain the scar on my chest.

“I’ll be waiting here, so don’t go far to talk. If anything happens, I’ll come running right away.”

Kyle spoke carefully, still not letting go of his tension until the end. I didn’t think Caesar was dangerous enough for him to warn me like this.

“Alright.”

Still, I didn’t exactly dislike that he was worried about me, so I answered briefly.

“Let’s go over there and talk.”

Caesar said, pointing in the direction we had come from. It seemed he wanted to talk somewhere far from the group.

Seeing Kyle glaring at Caesar as if he might kill him, I could fully understand how he felt.

“Sure, lead the way.”

Caesar moved first, and I followed behind him. I felt Kyle’s heated gaze clinging to my back, but I struggled to ignore it.

“It’s hard just to have one conversation. Aren’t those guys overprotecting you too much?”

Caesar, who was walking ahead, said sulkily without even looking back. I hadn’t realized it looked that way in other people’s eyes too.

“A little… They are like that.”

“Does that attitude not bother you? They’re completely treating you like an idiot.”

I thought saying they were treating me like an idiot was a little harsh. But when I thought about it, I knew those guys had treated me like someone useless from the beginning, and they still did.

“I am an idiot.”

When I admitted it as if it were no big deal, Caesar narrowed his eyes. Then he lightly shrugged his shoulders.

“Well, if you say so, then I suppose that’s how it is. Anyway, I’m thinking of heading back around here.”

Since he suddenly said he was going back, I was inwardly flustered. He had called me out for a private conversation, only to suddenly say goodbye.
