Me, the Weakest Member of the Hero’s Party? I’m the Villain Though? - Chapter 141
Before long, after filling their stomachs, the group decided to settle down in suitable places and sleep.
“Lysian, let’s sleep near the brazier. The weather’s damp, and the floor is cold, so it’s the perfect weather to catch a cold.”
Kyle naturally spread his cloak on the floor and gestured to me. I approached him without thinking much, then hesitated.
“I think I should sleep separately…”
I had only slept close beside Kyle a few times, so it felt strange for him to act as if it were something familiar.
“Don’t regret it after getting sick, and hurry over here.”
I hesitated and was about to wave my hand, but Kyle quickly caught my wrist and pulled me. In the end, I was dragged over and sat down on the cloak he had spread out.
“Since when did you two sleep stuck together like that for you to make such a fuss? Let him sleep comfortably.”
Gerard, who had been watching, said a word as if grumbling. He looked spiteful, but it seemed he was taking my side.
“Lysian’s body is warm, so he’s good to sleep beside.”
Kyle said it as if it were nothing, but I was left speechless by the absurd excuse. Gerard seemed to feel the same, because he silently stared at Kyle before lying down.
“Why, is it because I make you uncomfortable? If sleeping alone is more comfortable, do that.”
I was still sitting there blankly, stunned, when Kyle asked in a strangely gloomy and dejected voice.
Had he realized that I felt uncomfortable around him because of what happened last night? I didn’t want him to find out that I was concerned over a kiss that had no meaning.
“…As if I’m uncomfortable.”
I answered while trying hard to sound unaffected, then slowly lay down on his cloak. When I looked up at the dark, old monastery ceiling, I felt the eerie atmosphere I had barely been ignoring.
“What are you doing? Hurry up and sleep.”
After settling down first, I scolded Kyle instead, since he was still sitting in the same position. Only then did Kyle take the cloak I had taken off and settle down beside me.
When we lay close together and covered ourselves with the cloak, I felt at least a little warmth.
“The sound of the rain is pretty loud.”
It seemed the rain would pour down quite heavily all night. On top of that, the inside was quiet, so it seemed even clearer. Not only that, but the sound of wind entering the old chimney rang out eerily.
“It feels like a ghost might come out, right?”
Kyle asked while subtly taking my hand. He had been holding my hand when I woke up last time too, and I thought he had done it in his sleep, but apparently he had taken it on purpose.
As I looked at the back of his hand, which looked unusually pale in the dark, I began organizing my complicated thoughts.
I was a little confused by Kyle’s actions. He had always been unusual, but lately, it was hard to even guess what he was thinking.
I understood the kiss without any feelings. He had been trying to undo the paralysis from the poison.
But why was he trying to sleep pressed close to me, and why was he trying to hold my hand?
Don’t tell me… Is it because he’s afraid I’ll run away? Could he actually know that I’m the Black Flame Dragon and suspect me?
Suddenly, such a ridiculous and ominous thought occurred to me.
If so, what about when he kissed my forehead earlier in the forest? Maybe it was something like curiosity, the same as when I had secretly pressed my lips to Kyle while he was asleep.
Even though my eyes were closed, thoughts continued one after another, tangling up my mind. I turned my body, which had been lying on its side, back toward the ceiling and let out a long sigh.
“Lysian, can’t you sleep?”
At that moment, I heard a low voice and flinched in surprise as I opened my eyes. Kyle was gazing down at me blankly in the darkness.
Kyle’s blue eyes, like a calm lake, showed their true worth in the dark. Facing that clear light, which seemed as if it had never once been sullied, made my heart feel clean.
“Is there something on my face?”
When I stared at Kyle without saying anything, he felt around his face and asked.
“No, not really. What about you, why aren’t you sleeping?”
I asked, pretending to be calm even though I felt guilty inside. Kyle’s eyes curved into crescent moons as he smiled.
