Chapter 162
“Are they ghosts with form?”
Gerard guessed, but the sword Kyle swung confidently passed through their bodies, proving that hypothesis wrong.
“Since their forms are unclear, attacks with ordinary weapons are meaningless. There are a few ways to defeat evil beings. You can use white magic, or use weapons made of true silver.”
“Weapons made of true silver? Where would we have crap like…”
Gerard, who had been speaking irritably at Sal’s kind explanation, seemed to remember something and trailed off. It just so happened that we had received weapons made of true silver from the Borbos we met in the snow mountains.
Kyle had received a true-silver sword, Kakaros had received arrows, Elonen had received a shield, and I had received chest armor. I had heard that Gerard didn’t need equipment, so he had received valuable accessories.
“Kakaros, cover me! Gerard, take the rear!”
Kyle shouted as he put Fragarach into its sheath and drew the sword made of true silver.
As if we had planned it, Kakaros quickly drew his bowstring, and Gerard turned around and aimed his staff at the ghost rushing toward me.
“Get down!”
At Gerard’s voice, Elonen moved faster than I did. He grabbed my shoulders and made me duck, then took off something like a thick bracelet he had been wearing on his wrist and fastened it around mine.
“Take my shield.”
The moment I was flustered, wondering if this was a shield, a transparent barrier poured out from the bracelet.
“What about you, Elonen?”
“I’m a saint, aren’t I? Don’t worry about me. You wear it, Lysian.”
In truth, I had been bothered by the fact that Elonen was wasting his strength by staying only in front of me. So I accepted his shield and decided to fall back.
“Mm, so you’ve always watched from the sidelines like this?”
Sal asked teasingly as he looked at me. There was no particular reason for that to be embarrassing. I had learned that people should always distinguish well between when to step forward and when to be cautious.
“The hero’s party is strong, so they don’t need my help. I just need to avoid getting in their way.”
I pressed myself close to the wall and backed away to a place far from the party. Sal openly watched the hero’s party’s performance and followed me backward.
“What the hell, they come back to life even after dying?”
Kyle shouted as if disgusted while watching the ghost knights he had just cut to pieces slowly float back into the air.
The floating ghost knights stuck close together and began forming new shapes among themselves.
One had five arms, and one had three heads. The disgusting things that had fused back together charged persistently at the hero’s party with swords in hand.
“I’ll drive them away with holy water, so please attack them once more!”
After the party’s attacks poured down once more, Elonen sprinkled holy water on the ghost knights that had been brutally cut apart.
Then, with an unpleasant “Kieeeeeek!” sound, the ghosts’ forms turned into vapor and disappeared. Fortunately, it seemed they could be defeated with holy water like ordinary ghosts.
Arms crossed as he was watching from far away with me, Sal saw that and clapped his hands wildly. He looked like an audience member watching a very thrilling movie, which made him inwardly annoying.
“Lysian, are you hurt anywhere?”
After defeating the ghost soldiers, Kyle naturally ran to me first.
“I’m completely fine… Wait, Kyle.”
I answered out of habit, then suddenly grabbed Kyle by the nape of his neck. There was a scratch on his opposite cheek. I leaned my head closer and examined his cheek carefully.
“Ly, Lysian…?”
When my face suddenly came so close, Kyle called my name as his shoulders flinched so greatly that everyone else could notice.
“Here, you got scratched.”
“Ah…”
As if he hadn’t even known he was hurt, Kyle raised his hand in surprise and tried to feel the wound. I snatched his hand away.
“Don’t touch it. It doesn’t look very good.”
For some reason, Kyle’s cheeks seemed to be turning red, but the wound was more important than that. It looked like a light scratch, but the veins around it had turned blue and were bulging enough to feel as if they could be touched.
I wondered where I had seen it before, and then realized it was similar to Macy’s skin when she had been contaminated by the curse. The moment I realized that, my heart dropped.
All at once, pale skin, protruding blue veins, and the red blood that had poured out endlessly came to mind, making me dizzy.
