Nina whispered under her breath.

“…Did you by any chance send an invitation to House Nord?”

“Why would I do that.”

Ash let out a short, incredulous laugh.

The only people who had been given tickets were those friendly to House Bayern or families whose favor they needed.

House Nord had not even been placed on the guest list.

Which meant Rebecca had either used her connections or bought a ticket at the booth herself.

Nina looked coldly at Rebecca, who was smiling brazenly instead of frowning when their eyes met.

Ash had said he had made things unpleasant for House Nord after Countess Crest’s tea party.

If so, tension between Rebecca and her husband should have been inevitable.

But she looked far too pleased for someone in that position.

As Nina wondered why Rebecca, who should have been busy keeping her husband in check, had shown up here of all places, she noticed a child standing at Rebecca’s side among the circulating guests.

“That child is…”

It was the young painter Rebecca sponsored, the one Nina had seen at the Delphinium Foundation.

“Aunt, do you know him?”

At Ian’s curious question, Nina answered in a reluctant voice.

“He’s a young painter Duchess Nord sponsors. I saw him once at a previous exhibition.”

Unlike before, when he had worn clothes not far from rags, the child now wore a neat tailcoat.

But his eyes were the same as then, dark and sunken, with a splint strapped to his right arm.

Nina looked into those hopeless, murky eyes with a heavy heart.

Rebecca then looked away from her and greeted someone brightly.

“…I think I know why she came.”

Ash said with a humorless laugh.

Nina asked quietly, her voice lowered.

“Is that person Count Conwell?”

Rebecca certainly would not have brought the young painter here for no reason.

The moment Nina saw the child, she had understood Rebecca’s intentions.

Ash rubbed his chin and smiled faintly.

“Yes.”

The man with red hair and green eyes in his forties.

The one speaking with Rebecca was Count Conwell, the master of this gallery.

Rebecca’s once peaceful life had become twisted beyond repair.

Her pride shattered by her husband’s infidelity.

The constant fear of imperial punishment looming over her.

The increasingly vicious gossip growing like a snowball no matter how often she showed her face in society.

She remembered the whispers she had overheard at a recent party and curled her lip.

“Apparently it was Duchess Nord who’d been driving a wedge between Duke and Duchess Bayern all this time.”

“I did think she was strange before. Most of the rumors about Duchess Bayern were spread by Duchess Nord, they say.”

“Even that story about Duchess Bayern being kicked out of the marital bedroom was started by Duchess Nord, apparently.”

“When you think about it, doesn’t it seem odd? How would Duchess Nord know what happens inside someone else’s house.”

“Must’ve been nonsense. If it were true, there’s no way the two of them would be that close now…”

“And to think Duchess Nord threw such a fit when His Grace got married, tsk…”

Duchess Bayern, once the favorite target of ridicule in high society, was now seen as a good-hearted victim.

Meanwhile, Rebecca had fallen to the level of a woman who tried to destroy another household.

‘Yet none of them dare say a word when I’m standing right here…’

She had wanted to slap them alright on the spot, but her reputation was already bad enough.

Acting out would have dragged it straight into the abyss.

Rebecca raised the corner of her lips as she watched Nina enter the gallery.

Let’s see how long she can strut around like that.

‘Count Azelot said he’d begin the job soon. It won’t be long before I see that face twisted in anguish.’

Rebecca had not spent her time at social events simply playing around.

While her husband shirked his duties and wandered for pleasure, she worked with his aide to clean up the corruption in the national projects.

She had also managed to learn that a solo exhibition would be held here.

“It is good to see you again, Count Conwell.”

“Oh, Duchess Nord!”

Rebecca greeted him with a pleasant smile as they exchanged courtesies.

She had bought a ticket at the booth to enter this place for one reason only, and that was to meet Count Conwell.
