It was good to instill caution through severe punishment, but execution was excessively harsh.

Because it was a punishment handed down only for grave crimes such as treason or murder.

At that, Count Azelot spoke while suppressing his boiling anger.

“Then frame them for murder if you have to. Those bastards must be dealt with.”

“Your Excellency, forgive me, but it will be difficult to deal with this quietly. If this fact is discovered, won’t there be more to lose than to gain? I ask that you reconsider…”

The Knight Commander spoke carefully, with the implication that the severity of their punishment should be reduced.

It wasn’t only the knight order that had corruption.

Even among the ordinary employees, the working atmosphere had stiffened because of Count Azelot’s rage, to the point that even those who had committed minor acts of corruption were being swept up in it.

But if he were to pin crimes on them that didn’t even exist and punish them so extremely, the employees would be greatly shaken.

Creating an atmosphere of fear made an organization easier to control, but the important thing was that it also lowered morale.

The ordinary employees didn’t matter, but if the morale of the knight order fell, it wouldn’t benefit the family.

But Count Azelot was firm.

“Do you even understand what it means that Duke Bayern sent those three bastards back alive?”

“……”

It wasn’t merely because they had siphoned off his money that he had given such an order.

‘That bastard Ash Bayern knows.’

What he had done after kidnapping the repairman and taking action against House Bayern.

All three bastards had been caught and then released, hadn’t they?

No matter how dull-witted he might be, there was no way he wouldn’t know that those bastards had suffered in House Bayern and spilled internal secrets.

According to them, they swore they hadn’t opened their mouths, and if they had, would they really have walked back here on their own two feet?

But who could believe that?

He had no intention of leaving alive those who had leaked the family’s secrets.

‘To be precise, I can’t leave them alive.’

They were accomplices and witnesses to what he had done.

“…Cunning bastard.”

Count Azelot ground his teeth, chewing on the curse.

No matter how stupid he might be, there was no way he couldn’t understand what Ash was aiming for.

How could he not know that if he killed those damned witnesses with his own hands, the loyalty of the knight order would fall?

The Knight Commander had likely tried to dissuade him out of concern for that as well, but if he didn’t kill them, they could become the source of trouble later on.

Count Azelot pressed hard against his throbbing temples and dismissed the Knight Commander.

“You may leave now.”

“…Yes, Your Excellency.”

The Knight Commander added nothing more and turned away with a dark expression.

House Bayern’s counterattack hadn’t even begun yet, but he felt an ominous dread, as though he had already stepped into the eye of a storm.

Early in the morning, Nina was soaking in the bath, easing her weary body.

Was it because she had been put through such intense passion all night?

Her whole body was stiff, as though every joint had been shattered.

It was enough to make her think that starting today, she might need to sleep in a separate room from her husband, if only to survive.

‘But why is that man so full of energy?’

Was this the difference in stamina between men and women?

Her husband was the one who had done all the vigorous moving, but somehow, it seemed that she was the only one getting exhausted.

‘Do I really need to start taking tonics…?’

Lately, nourishing dishes had been appearing on the table as if in support of their deepening married life.

But she felt that something on that level was still far from enough to catch up to her husband’s stamina.

After finishing her bath, Nina slipped on a robe and, as she left the bathroom, recalled her conversation with Count Conwell.

“…Judging from how Duchess Nord emphasized young Emil’s genius, I think there is a strong possibility that Emil’s arm injury wasn’t an accident either.”

So that was why he had said he hoped that talented young artist would be freed from Duchess Nord all the more.

“…It’s because of me, isn’t it?”

Nina murmured in a low voice.

It wasn’t as though she didn’t know that Rebecca had a sense of rivalry toward her.

Had she grown jealous because Nina was receiving attention from people after sponsoring Henry?

Seeing how she had tried to rent Count Conwell’s gallery by following House Bayern’s lead, it was almost certain.

But no matter how much she wanted attention, to think she would deliberately injure a perfectly fine arm.

It wasn’t certain, but considering Rebecca’s personality, it couldn’t be said to be entirely baseless.

‘She really does seem like a saboteur.’

If Rebecca hadn’t done something like that, Count Conwell wouldn’t have stepped in.

When would they be able to save that child?

Since she couldn’t say that she had no influence at all on Rebecca’s wrongdoing, she couldn’t help but feel troubled.
