‘Chandelier…?’

What is this uneasy feeling, as if I’ve forgotten something important…?

“Yes, fortunately, it stopped quickly, so no one was hurt. But a few wine bottles in the underground cellar broke. They probably had a tough time cleaning up from early dawn.”

Nina’s expression turned serious.

It felt like something significant happened that day, but what was it exactly?

‘…The wine broke because of an earthquake? Earthquake? Wine? Chandelier?’

As she repeatedly muttered “earthquake,” “wine,” and “chandelier,” memories she had forgotten suddenly flooded back, and her eyes widened.

‘…How could I have forgotten that?’

Even if it was 30 years ago, forgetting this was unbelievable!

Nina abruptly stood up from her seat.

“Marsha, I have to go.”

“Madam? Go where?”

“The Duke Granvil’s birthday celebration, I have to attend it.”

“Right now?”

“Yes, right now!”

Marsha, taken aback by the sudden change, quickly stood up and dashed to the dressing room.

Since it takes a long time for a lady to get dressed, she had to hurry.

Memory is a fascinating thing.

Sometimes, you can’t recall anything, as if your mind is a blank slate. Sometimes, you remember only parts, or memories get distorted.

And sometimes, a small clue can awaken deeply buried memories all at once.

Like now.

‘I hope I’m not too late…’

Nina rubbed her palms together nervously in the running carriage.

Forget what you should forget.

How could I forget something so important?

‘Hearing that wine broke this morning, it seems I was destined to see blood today.’

Before the regression, today, she had muttered something similar.

That was because an incident happened at Duke Granvil’s birthday celebration.

‘Today was the day Marquis Saldersford injured his leg…?’

Due to the aftermath of the earthquake that shook the entire region at dawn, there was a problem with the chandelier in the banquet hall.

Marquis Allen M. Saldersford.

He was my husband’s closest friend, and on this day, he suffered a serious accident where one of his legs was crushed by a chandelier.

As a result, he lost one leg and began living in seclusion, and a few months later, he passed away.

She heard he couldn’t overcome complications after the leg amputation surgery.

She remembered clearly that she didn’t bother her husband during the funeral period and remained quiet.

His figure sitting in front of the tombstone, looking dazed and unmoving all day long, is etched in my memory.

He looked like he would collapse if touched.

‘…Thinking back, it was a bit strange.’

Even if life is a survival of the fittest, isn’t it natural to at least pretend to help when a friend’s family is collapsing?

Most people don’t ignore the plight of a close friend.

A true friend tries to help as much as they can.

But Duke Granvil didn’t do that.

‘Maybe it wasn’t that he didn’t help, but that he couldn’t.’

If an incident happens at a party, the host of that party is held responsible.

But the victim of that day’s accident was Marquis Saldersford, a high-ranking noble and Ash’s close friend.

How did the Granvil Dukedom bear the responsibility for his death?

‘Was Ash involved…?’

That seems likely.

Just as he lost his closest friend, perhaps he inflicted similar pain on Duke Granvil.

Thinking this, my desire to prevent this accident grew stronger.

After a long ride, the carriage stopped in front of Duke Granvil’s mansion.

Although Granvil was far enough to require several days of travel, we arrived quickly thanks to the portals.

With the end of the magical era and the rise of the knight era, magic became obsolete, yet some remnants of the old era remained.

Teleportation portal.

The portal can only transport to locations where a portal exists, and Bayern and Granvil are among the few places where portals still exist.

Thanks to the portal, Nina arrived without delay, and after quickly tidying up in the carriage, she entered Duke Granvil’s mansion.
