The person with whom Saintess Genevieve spent the most time was unexpectedly Crown Prince Edwin.

In a way, it was natural, but it was surprising that the name of Duke Blanchard didn’t come up first.

‘Surprisingly, she doesn’t seem to have much interaction with Duke Blanchard.’

There were countless rumors.

Of course, there were.

A woman of low birth, treated worse than a slave, became a Saintess overnight, and the man who discovered her abilities was one of the most prestigious blue-blooded men in the empire.

A picturesque couple, a fated connection between the Saintess and her guardian.

Even if one wasn’t a frivolous romantic, it was hard to believe that nothing happened between the two.

People usually expect the personal lives of famous individuals to be dirty and scandalous.

The dirtier, the more interesting and stimulating it is.

No one cares about the truth. They embellish and spread stories, imagining the messiest scenarios.

If the man’s fiancĂ©e died trying to protect his lover, it would be the perfect gossip.

However, in reality, there was no interaction between the two.

Aside from the time before her awakening when the Saintess briefly stayed at the duke’s fiancĂ©e’s residence, there were no private meetings.

The Saintess stayed in the church or the palace, and they were rarely partners at official events.

Even when they were partners, it was forced by the duke’s fiancĂ©e.

‘As if she wanted her fiancĂ© to be with the Saintess
.’

In reality, Duke Blanchard seemed to have little interest in the Saintess.

Those who enjoyed the idea of the Saintess and the Duke being together didn’t seem to see this obvious truth.

From Kaitlyn’s perspective, the woman Duke Blanchard’s wife resurrected was an ardent follower of the Saintess.

It’s almost as if she’s the one who had fallen in love with the Saintess at first sight, chasing after her with such fervor that she even sacrificed her fiancĂ© and life.

She was almost a fanatic.

That’s why the Saintess spent five years trying to bring her back.

Reviving a person seemed like nonsense.

But the Saintess had clearly changed, and there was no way to know how far her abilities had developed.

‘I should have made sure to kill her from the start.’

After failing to assassinate the Saintess, it was Keith who suggested keeping her alive.

He said her abilities were too mediocre to pose a serious threat to their business and that they could kill her later if she became a problem.

Keith died trying to take responsibility for those words.

He died because he was soft and kind.

Because he tried to show mercy to the enemy.

Kaitlyn and Keith were descendants of fallen nobles from the Green Windsor Empire.

After losing their parents in an accident during their childhood, they were chased out by relatives coveting their title. The twins fled to the Miphan Mountain Range to survive, where they met their current adoptive parents.

Their adoptive parents recognized the twins’ potential as mages and adopted them, raising them.

The twins lived to be useful to their adoptive parents.

Keith, in particular, loved their adoptive parents and dedicated his life to them. Kaitlyn also loved their parents, but she loved her twin even more.

She couldn’t forgive her adoptive parents for discarding her twin’s corpse like a rotten log, nor could she forgive the Saintess who killed him.

***

Sometimes there are moments when you can’t stop, even though you know it’s the wrong path.

Being consumed by impulse is extremely foolish, but you become addicted to the sensation of falling into the abyss and can’t escape it.

For Edwin, that moment was then.

The moment when he knew he should take his eyes off the face looking down at him with contempt, but couldn’t.

The moment he felt he might fall into those common green eyes.
