Even with the person responsible for Keith’s death standing right in front of him, Harrison didn’t hate her, nor did he harbor any resentment.

No matter how much he pretended to deceive the Saintess and act as if he loved her.

Kaitlyn had known Harrison since they were very young. He rarely showed emotion, so his eyes often conveyed what his face didn’t.

And right now, Harrison was not acting.

The way he looked at the Saintess—at his own wife.

Those eyes held reverence, admiration, and love—emotions he had never directed toward Kaitlyn, even in their childhood.

It was the look Kaitlyn had desperately wanted but had never received.

How could she trust this ā€œtoolā€ who dared to love a woman he should rightly hate?

ā€œKeith couldn’t trust you because you got so wrapped up in playing house with that wench.ā€

ā€œā€¦ā€¦ā€

ā€œOf course he didn’t use you. After all, you’re the son of a traitor.ā€

ā€œIf I’d betrayed you, you wouldn’t even be here right now.ā€

ā€œā€¦ā€¦ā€

ā€œIf you’ve said your piece, step aside. I need to lock these two up. You should go back to the cabin and clean up your wounds.ā€

Harrison didn’t even deny her words. Kaitlyn sneered.

ā€œIt’s not over yet.ā€

ā€œKaitlyn.ā€

Kaitlyn staggered toward Adeline.

Adeline barely managed to lift her head to face the shadow looming over her. If she took another kick to her stomach, she might actually pass out. She was already on the verge.

But instead of kicking her, Kaitlyn simply looked down at her writhing figure as if she were some sort of insect.

ā€œDo you want to live?ā€

ā€œā€¦ā€¦ā€

Oh, she wanted to spit in her face.

Adeline regretted not spitting at her before kicking her in the gut.

Of course I want to live… Everything I’m doing is because I want to live.

Out of everyone in this world, Adeline feared death the most and had the strongest desire for life.

But in her five years of isolation, she’d learned something.

Simply existing was not the same as truly living.

Just breathing wasn’t enough to say you were alive.

Yes, Adeline wanted to live. More than anyone, she wanted to live.

She wanted to live happily.

Kaitlyn, looking down at the fierce glint in Adeline’s eyes, spoke.

ā€œHarrison is right. I need to be more rational.ā€

Harrison sighed. Kaitlyn, of course, was anything but rational.

ā€œThinking it over, I suppose there’s no real reason to kill you. Looking at you just reminds me of that wretched Princess Mia, so I was planning to kill you just to torment the Saintess. But… you might be more useful as a bargaining chip.ā€

ā€œā€¦ā€¦ā€

ā€œBut that alone would not satisfy me.ā€

Her pretentiousness barely disguised her desire for a petty form of revenge. Her eyes gleamed with an eerie resentment, bright with cruelty.

A person who has lost everything has nothing left to fear.

Adeline wondered how someone who once crashed into her life like a runaway train had become so broken.

Perhaps the power to control others ultimately destroys the one wielding it more than it does the target.

Feeling that the world around her bent to her will, Kaitlyn must have become arrogant, as if she were a god.

She must have believed that nothing could defy her wishes.

To her, other people’s minds were beneath consideration.

Living in a world where people weren’t truly human in her eyes, she had lorded over it as if she were a god.

But no one can live alone.

She didn’t understand that.

ā€œKill the Saintess with your own hands. Then, I’ll let you live.ā€

And so she made this trashy offer, wearing a smug expression.

Adeline let out a bitter laugh and muttered softly,

ā€œYou’re such garbageā€¦ā€

ā€œWhat?ā€

As Kaitlyn leaned closer, Adeline spat, blood mixed with saliva, directly into her face.

ā€œI’d rather die than do that, you crazy b***h.ā€
