“You said you weren’t thirsty.”

I mumbled under my breath, but Helios replied casually.

“This is different. This is sweet.”

At those words, the memory of that heated moment rushed back — bare skin, tangled limbs — and a burning heat shot to the top of my head.

Great. Now I’m going to get a nosebleed.

I quickly turned my face away. Helios brushed a hand over the back of mine, then stood up.

“I’ll call for Ebony.”

“There’s no need. I’m fine.”

I grabbed his hand before he could ring the bell. One glance at myself told me everything — bruises, red marks everywhere. The idea of letting Ebony see all this made my vision go blurry.

I knew my own body best. My mouth still felt slightly numb, so the poison wasn’t fully cleared, but I was nearly back to normal.

Physical contact with an imprint partner really is something else.

Strong enough to neutralize a deadly toxin.

Though, well… the neutralization process wasn’t exactly a walk in the park.

And there it was again — the memory. I fanned my face with my hand, trying to cool down.

“Are you feverish?”

Helios narrowed his eyes.

“No.”

“Then why… oh, I see. You remembered everything.”

Of course he figured it out. The man had an annoying talent for reading my thoughts.

“Yes, I remember. Even the parts I wish I didn’t.”

It’s common for memories to vanish during a high fever, but of course, I had no such luck.

“You don’t need an explanation, do you?”

I wasn’t sure if he was asking about the incident or the treatment.

Confused, I looked up at him, and Helios’ lips curled into a soft smirk.

“I wanted to be gentle with you.”

He reached out, smoothing my tousled hair and tucking a loose strand behind my ear.

He was talking about the treatment.

“I think I owe you an apology.”

His shoulders drooped. He looked like a kid who’d been sent to buy bean sprouts but came back with chocolate because he couldn’t help himself.

Suddenly, my heart twisted.

Who crushed this man’s spirit?!

“Your Highness, why are you apologizing? I’m alive because of you!”

“But I didn’t get your proper permission. You said things should follow procedure.”

Did I say that? I tilted my head, unsure, and Helios continued.

“You said we’d get engaged first, then marry.”

I had said something like that. Helios was apologizing because we’d been intimate without even being married yet.

“But my life was on the line. Who cares about the order at a time like that, Your Highness!”

His eyes lit up.

“Exactly, right?”

“Pardon?”

“If your life’s on the line, who cares about the order. You’re right.”

Why did it feel like I’d just stepped into a trap?

Still, I nodded. Restoring Helios’ wilted pride felt more important than any mental red flags.

“Alright then, Rienna. Let’s get married. Since we’ve come this far. I want to do the full treatment.”

“You’re already treating me perfectly well…”

“I mean—”

Helios leaned in, lips brushing my ear. The moment his breath hit, the memory of last night surged back. My body shivered as I felt the unmistakable dampness bloom below.

“I mean everything. All of it.”

“Everything” held multitudes. And I knew exactly what he meant.

Hand-holding, sweet embraces, soft kisses, slow-burning kisses, and then—burning, unrestrained nights tangled in sheets.

“Your Highness… That’s a bit…”

Worried he’d notice my skin prickling, I quickly pushed him away. His broad chest actually gave under my touch, which was surprising — until I saw the slump of his shoulders and the way his eyes drooped at the corners.

Oh no. He’s about to cry.

“So I really wasn’t good enough, huh? I was clumsy… I suppose because it was my first time. Even if it was for treatment, clumsy isn’t sexy, right? I should’ve done better.”

Absolutely not.

The last thing he was, was clumsy. He was incredible, so much so I almost forgot the pain. It was so perfect I wasn’t sure if it was medical therapy or true lovemaking. The kind that left your soul floating somewhere above the bed.

He was that good.

Though, yes, he was rather large. Overwhelmingly so.

And yes, I did think he bit and licked me a lot.

But if I’m being honest?

“It felt amazing!”

I understood the depth of physical affection — something I couldn’t grasp even after reading countless novels — through a single act.

“Did you like it?”

Despite my embarrassed confession, Helios still sounded unsure.

I was flustered, but I tightly held his hand and answered.

“Yes, absolutely.”

“Enough to want to do it again?”

“That’s…”

“I knew it. You’re just being kind to comfort me, Rienna.”

Why do I see ears poking up on top of Helios’s head? And why are they slowly drooping down?

I shut my eyes tightly.

“I want to do it again. A lot.”

“Really? That’s a relief.”

Helios beamed.

It felt like I’d made a huge mistake, but seeing him smile made it all okay.

“Since you want it so badly, I guess there’s no helping it. Let’s skip the engagement and just get married.”

What utter nonsense!

How did he come to that conclusion?
