Helios gritted his teeth.

Someone had made the first move. How dare they interfere with his prey, the one he had marked.

Helios flicked his tongue across his cheek and looked back at Vincenzo.

“Seal off the area within 10 meters. If a single strand of hair is spotted, collect it.”

“It looks like suicide.”

Vincenzo picked up a vial from around the bed and handed it over.

“It could be poisoning, though. Who knows who administered it?”

ā€œThere’s also a suicide note.ā€

Vincenzo unfolded the letter in his hand.

Helios furrowed his brow, almost repulsed by the thought of touching it. He glanced at the letter.

“It says, ‘I take all the blame. I sent the snake to Rienna Harris. I have no regrets for what I did. The only regret I have is…'”

“Regret?”

“It ends there.”

Helios’s eyes narrowed at the unfinished sentence in the last words of the suicide note.

He snatched the letter from Vincenzo’s hand.

There was an unusual tremor in the handwriting. The kind of scrawl you get when someone is pressured.

The final word was drawn out long, and ink splattered across the paper.

Someone must have pressured them to write this. Then, they stopped them from finishing.

“Should we check the handwriting?”

“Of course. Even if it’s confirmed to be in their handwriting, proceed with the investigation as a homicide.”

Although the circumstances pointed more towards suicide than murder, Vincenzo didn’t question it.

He knew well that Helios’s investigative instincts were exceptional, and seeing the furrowed brow, he could tell that Helios was not just irritated—he was deeply unsettled.

In moments like this, it was best to stay cautious and follow instructions without hesitation.

“Who should we assign as the investigator?”

Vincenzo, who had been talking to the security personnel, spoke up to Helios, who was still staring at Milchin’s body.

“Nick.”

“But he’s already handling four cases at the moment.”

The constabulary was always busy, but even so, they maintained some level of balance.

It was rare for a deputy inspector or an officer to handle four cases simultaneously. While it was common for officers to take on consecutive cases, no one had ever juggled four at once. Nick, however, was breaking records.

“He brought it upon himself, didn’t he?”

He’s the one who turned the suicide case into a homicide and is investigating it, so it’s his own doing.

“Adding one more on top of that…”

As someone who also served the empire, it just didn’t sit right with him.

Vincenzo had been trying to lighten Nick’s workload, but it only earned him a sarcastic laugh from Helios.

“Either way, it’s just one case. And this one too.”

Helios hopped onto the bed without hesitation.

“Your Highness!”

Vincenzo rushed toward him, a sense of urgency in his voice.

“This is the crime scene…”

“There’s nothing on the bed.”

Helios had already checked the surroundings thoroughly.

“Even so…”

“Take a look at this, Vincenzo.”

Helios grabbed Milchin’s shirt and ripped it open. Buttons flew off, and Milchin’s bare chest was exposed.

“Wait, what’s that?”

There was a burn mark near his heart. Milchin has similar scars to the bodies from the cases Nick is handling.

“It’s the work of one person.”

Helios was sure of it.

“A serial killer.”

As he spoke, Helios’ eyes lit up with the excitement of a child who had just found a delicious treat. He licked his lips, eagerly anticipating the investigation.

“What’s this…?”

The moment Demyr saw me, she wrinkled her face in disapproval.

I lowered my head to check my outfit. It was just the usual clothes I wore, but Demr grabbed my shirt and shook it as if she were unhappy with it.

“From now on, don’t wear this. Wear a dress.”

“This is more comfortable, Your Majesty.”

“That’s the palace etiquette. The royal family must wear dresses. And you should change into a new dress three times a day,” Demyr said, her voice carrying the weight of authority.

Ugh, hearing that made me want to leave the palace and forget about the engagement altogether.

“No, we can’t have this. We need to visit D’s Dress Shop again soon.”

“No, Your Majesty! I have plenty of dresses already.”

The numbers on the receipt from the shopping trip with Demyr were enough to send a chill down my spine. The thought of truly becoming a daughter-in-law felt even more burdensome now.

Please leave that for the real wife of Prince Helios later.

If I couldn’t return it, it would become a debt. No matter how shameless I was, accepting such things twice would be hard.
